Unreal is a highly enjoyable classic FPS with some rough edges. Unreal Evolution seeks to address these and bring a high quality golden age game to the next level. Expect tighter overall design. If you've played my critically-acclaimed 'GMDX' mod for Deus Ex, you know what to expect:
Unreal Evolution is intended to enhance the overall experience yet retain the original spirit and concepts: Unreal but better.

Enhances Unreal Singleplayer and the Return to Na Pali Expansion Pack. Multiplayer is not Supported.

Polished, Visceral Weapon Design with Faithful Execution
{
    1: Polished, highly refined weaponry. All weapon bugs squashed;
    2: Considerably overhauled effects: gore effects, impact effects, projectile effects, recoil effects, muzzle flash and much more;
    3: New weapon upgrade modules to customise Unreal weaponry to your liking, increase replayability, and make thorough exploration worthwhile;
    4: New input and weapon behaviour: Press "2" to manually reload the automag. Headshots with any weapon deal minor bonus damage + more;
    5: Enhanced satisfying audio design;
}

Expanded Artificial Intelligence
{

     2: All new enemy types add meaningful diversity to Unreal's combat;
     3: 227 damage and projectile speed scaling is removed. Instead a more engaging approach is taken:

    2. New optional player input such as dedicated dodge and grenade keys bindable from the menu;
    3. Improved inventory system: Flares last longer. Forcefields are actually useful now. Scuba gear won't instantly drown you if deactivated and so on;
    4. New optional Hardcore mode for those seeking a true challenging but fair test;
    5. New useful autosave system with multiple save slots;
}

F5 key toggles ui mode

Played on Hardcore difficulty.

Good things:

The positioning of the various power modules is pretty great. Enjoyed searching for them in every nook, and made the exploring of Unreal less boring. In my past playthroughs I usually get bored pretty soon, but this time it didn't happen until the end

Suggestions:

- ASMD sound is so powerful, yet it kinda subverts the expectation because it isn’t that strong, especially at the beginning. Suggestion: Reduce the sound power, but make it so that if you upgrade it via the modules, the sound goes up to the maximum.

- Adding modules on weapons makes the writing go over each other. See if it can be fixed.

- Fix the Sudden death on ISV-Kran

- Make it so that you can use cheats even on unreal difficulty. I have to be sincere, if I was playing unreal difficulty I would have had many difficulties for being unable to use cheats. Sometimes I didn’t know where to go and noclip helped me see if I was missing something and made me learn the intricacies of the layouts of all the map (eg. The temple with dozens of elevator).

- I liked the Stinger, but I found the 240 cap kinda low and not only that, there weren’t much ammo for it.

- The bird that attacks you does a little too much damage. I would reduce it a little.

- The zoom on the sniper rifle is disappointing.

- The endgame areas were a chore… really too many monsters. I didn’t enjoy them. Also, the monsters that are imprisoned are supposed to go ham on others, but they preferred me. The endgame areas would be better if the monsters that are caged would ignore you and go ham on the other npc(s), but I understand that my suggestion might sound controversial. This is why I suggested the monsters should be hostile towards the others. From: Youtube.com 7:16

- I also had some issues with the translator. Sometimes it wouldn't fire up the correct things I was looking at. For example, I discovered the detail above about monsters being hostile to the other because I watched a playthrough of Unreal. But when I moved to the panel that supposedly told me that, I had "Press fire to discover the details of your weapon"

- The asmd penetration upgrade module is not that great. I understand it can pierce multiple targets, but it seems worse compared to the alternative. Make it so that you can pierce the shields or make it better against armored
First of all, the sound is superb. I compared it between the original unreal and this one and I would never be able to go back. Kudos on that

Thanks for the mod

Anyway, that's what I'm currently liking about UE.

Note: I didn't enjoy Unreal very much for the variety of reasons that UE fixes.

1) Exploration is now worth it. The fact that you can update the weapons or find some good loot appeals to me a lot

2) The stinker is now the stinger. :D

3) I would confuse the creatures you added for original one

4) Some areas definitely improved from a graphical standpoint and are good-looking

5) The audio effects are pretty good.

6) Monsters are more intelligent

'Cause Epic stinks like doodoo. However.. there are other ways. Pixel Drain is a good site to look into; you know for posterity and such.

Completely forgot about this mod when it was released. Got sudden reminder recently with EbiG (F U for pulling all Unreal games off the stores) and started playing.
Wish more people could experience this amazing game in this form.

But the biggest change is the font size - you have no idea how many old games had this issue - whenever playing raw or with fan patches/mods.

The only thing that required my input was disabling windowed mode switch with F12 key, which is also the key for screenshots in Steam.

I would maybe add option to change pages in translator with [ and ] key.

Could you make a sound pack with just the weapon sounds from this mod?

All sounds used are from the vanilla game & expansion pack, just with pitch changes, use of unused sounds, resourceful recycling, stacked sounds etc.

Does it work with the 227i patch?
