Unreal is a highly enjoyable classic FPS with some rough edges. Unreal Evolution seeks to address these and bring a high quality golden age game to the next level. Expect tighter overall design. If you've played my critically-acclaimed 'GMDX' mod for Deus Ex, you know what to expect: Unreal Evolution is intended to enhance the overall experience yet retain the original spirit and concepts: Unreal but better.

Enhances Unreal Singleplayer and the Return to Na Pali Expansion Pack. Multiplayer is not Supported.

Polished, Visceral Weapon Design with Faithful Execution
{
    1: Polished, highly refined weaponry. All weapon bugs squashed;
    2: Considerably overhauled effects: gore effects, impact effects, projectile effects, recoil effects, muzzle flash and much more;
    3: New weapon upgrade modules to customise Unreal weaponry to your liking, increase replayability, and make thorough exploration worthwhile;
    4: New input and weapon behaviour: Press "2" to manually reload the automag. Headshots with any weapon deal minor bonus damage + more;
    5: Enhanced satisfying audio design;
}

Expanded Artificial Intelligence
{
     1. New AI attacks & tactics for almost all enemy types; Even tentacles have more diverse behaviour.
     2: All new enemy types add meaningful diversity to Unreal's combat;
     3: 227 damage and projectile speed scaling is removed. Instead a more engaging approach is taken:
     Enemies are encountered in slight higher frequency on higher difficulty modes, and enemies are smarter.
}

Enhanced Level Design and Graphics
{
    1. Subtly Improved art direction. Faithful upgrades;
    2. New challenges, locations and secrets without changing the levels in any major way;
    3. Bugfixes and polishing;
    4. Utilizes advanced 227 engine features such as "true crouching" and skybox coronas;
    5. Improves all Unreal and RTNP expansion pack levels.
}

Upgraded Inventory & Player Control
{
    1. Vastly improved dodge mechanic: slightest inclines won't cancel dodge, small objects on the floor won't block it, you can dodge underwater + more;
    2. New optional player input such as dedicated dodge and grenade keys bindable from the menu;
    3. Improved inventory system: Flares last longer. Forcefields are actually useful now. Scuba gear won't instantly drown you if deactivated and so on;
    4. New optional Hardcore mode for those seeking a true challenging but fair test;
    5. New useful autosave system with multiple save slots;
}
//This and much more!

Hi, what are the differences in the difficulty levels? I'm playing on Unreal skill and everything seems to shred my health down pretty quick.

Player damaged received, enemy health, enemy movement speed, enemy projectile speed, enemy count, resource availability. These scale with every difficulty mode except hardcore mode, which has the same values as Unreal difficulty. However hardcore mode has a bunch of additional rules such as more enemies unique to this mode, saving restrictions, +10% higher chance of vanilla random enemy spawns occurring, as well as some weapon mods unique to this mode and more.

I completed both campaigns on Hardcore. An incredible mod and work. I love the weapons upgrade mechanics. I've been experimenting with mixing Evolution maps with Realistic Coop gameplay (Another Unreal mod), and I was wondering if it was possible for you to make a mutator that would allow you to replace the normal weapons with the Evolution weapons (ext).

Edit: It seems that moving the files UnrealEvolution.int and UnrealEvolution.u to the "normal" Unreal system folder and then adding them as mutators to a game allows me to use the Evolution weapons in "normal" Unreal (without mods).

Still I wanted to ask you, do you know how I can add the mutator manually with a command? For example, something like: open Vortex2?Mutator=(Mutator name)

I tried with "open Vortex2?Mutator=UnrealEvolution.UnrealEvolution" but it doesn't seem to work.

Unreal Evolution IS 40% a mutator. It can be used with community made map packs/mods to replace weapons, inventory items and enemy AI. You don't get Unreal Evolution's level design enhancements, weapon mods, improved player mechanics (e.g improved dodging), graphics enhancements or anything else when used as such though.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the quick reply! I just want the weapons and inventory from Evolution. I'm ok with the rest. Still I want to know how to load the Evolution mutator manually because RlCoop does not appear in the list of mutators, and to load it I need to execute it with a command, defining in it the series of mutators to use in the game. It is in that same command that I want to add the Unreal Evolution mutator to have the Evolution weapons and objects, but I don't know how to add it because typing UnrealEvolution.UnrealEvolution in the line simply does nothing.

This is the command i'm using: "Open Vortex2? game=rlcoops.rlcoops?mutator=rlcoops.rlcoopsmut,rlcoopmut.rl_custommapfixes, begonenot.begonenot, DestructibleLights.DestructibleLights?difficulty=666"

Next to the Destructible Lights mutator I would like to add the Unreal Evolution Mutator... what should I type?

Hi bud, highly interested in this mod. Never played Unreal before and I just picked it at gog.com. May I kindly ask if there is any way to disable the recoil effect entirely? (I mean the camera-shaking-effect).
Best and keep up the great work.

Not currently, sorry. If I do another update I'll tie it to the "weapon flash" option.
Or I'll just make an add-on that removes it.
