ATTN: THIS MOD HAS BEEN CANCELLED
The Rising Empire is a mod for Jedi Academy, that is based off a novel I started writing years ago, that was set in it's own universe. But most of it was based off of a small idea, and a character, I put in the Star Wars universe. This mod, is based off the Star Wars version of the story, and follows the story, of Jarron Siscer - a young man, living on Coruscant, ten years after the Clone Wars.
What I've done, for the game adaptation of the story, is divide the mod into three parts:(note that each Chapter will contain about 3-4 maps)
Details on the other two chapters, are not being revealed, at this time.
(although, I will say The Rising "Empire", is actually referring to a different Empire)
OK, so after recieving a message from someone recently, over MOD DB, from my e-mail, I remembered that I HAD, at one time, a bunch of people following this project, and I sadly got all their hopes up after some point in 2006, when I was determined to push something out for people to atleast play, or view in some way.
Not too long after my last post, things happened in real life and things didn't happen, I moved around a few times focused more on work and finishing college and I lost alot of progress, as I had to restore my computer from backups that were a few months old - at that point I prettymuch stopped and found a few other projects that wouldn't kill me in every psychological way imaginable, like this mod was doing.
I really regret to inform everyone that the Maps I've made were never really ready as playble maps and had many subjective holes that needed patching not to mention the way the opening city-scape map was structured just wasn't working...long story short, it'll never see the light of day, as a finished project.
IF you want to see anything of this project, as it was toward the end - I uploaded a video to youtube a year or two ago, showcasing the original "planned opening" for The Rising Empire - and out of sheer spite for my terrible dialogue and story writing for the time - I wrote-in some commentary that you might find annoying but after years of the same story, over and over, and then coming back to it years later looking back on it almost as if it were some silly drawing from 3rd grade Art class...it was annoying for me. =D
My only hope is that I'll be able to finish something else that I've started, now.
I'd like to thank you all for following this project for so long and sticking with me though the whole process and I apologise for leading you all on for so long, with nothing to really show for it (except maybe one player model that I actually released long ago) - But this sadly had to come to an end.
Well, I lied. I started playing around with my skybox in 3DS Max, and next thing I know I'm changing the entire cityscape. It kicks ass, now and...
Nothing much to show lately, most of everything just needs to be scripted, like the cutscenes. I've been kinda slacking off with real-life and...
Sorry guys. I appreciate all the encouragement over the years, and great comments - But I've quite moved on from this convoluted story.
Basic plot outline:
In the last draft it was going to be set on Corellia Same things happen as the draft opening, only I was going to drop the whole cliched Darth Vader angle and try to establish a different villian who would actually have time to chase people across the universe
The story follows Jarrin and *Strong female character/Marion Ravenwood rip-off* A.k.a. "Leela" (but name was changed to "Iahnah" and she looked very different from Leela.)
Jarrin leaves the the tram, and goes to the bar. Meets his contact, "Ramus" learns he works for Rebellion, gets his mission to infultrate Imperial stronghold for unknown payment, in exchange for top secret hyperdrive project that Doctor "Leela" has access to and is working on. She's defecting to Alliance, ect.
Stupid Dialogue happens between Jarrin and Leela (Ripping-off Raders of the Lost Ark's character development between Indy and Marion...)
Continued next post...
...They get chased out of the Hotel by Imperial Raid - they continue with the mission anyway Ramus, is captured helping them escape - they break into the facility, steal the prototype ship and use the Experimental Hyperdrive to escape and then end up crashing on a distant planet that looks alot like Skyrim (before they even released Oblivion and Skyrim)
And then a totally different story happens where it's eventually revealed that people who were stranded on that planet were decentants of ancient Jedi and Sith and some civilians and went a few thousand years without any means of modern technology and can only utilise simple machines and steam engines - was still working on the details of this but that's the gist of it.
It was getting to be a headache - not to mention, most of the visuals and story telling methods I wanted in this, can be done better, easier and more efficiently in many newer games.
If new games seem to be better, why don't you try to make a mod for a new game instead of JA? I guess lots of people would still be interested in playing this mod. Good SW mods are rare things, and this plot - you've described here - is quite good.
hi antizac, Me and a few of my friends really want to play this and i know for sure that others will too including those who are on moddb. don't give up, complete the mod and do it for the JKA community
don't let this mod die! it looks fantastic and i'm sure it will be a hit if it gets released.
I remember following this mod years ago. The work you put into it was amazing! It's sad to hear of it's end, but thank you for your inspiration and the leela models-Peace!
DEAD!!
Completely agree with others: the mod looks good. I remember seeing some os the screens years ago. But now that we've got video here - Oh mine! One of only several mods that DO have voicing! That's rare!
It also obvious that the mapping wasn't too bad at all.
And like the idea that the was some humour in the mod.
........:(
Wish he didn't cancel the mode, this looked absoulutly amazing!
Yes, now it is official.
