really looking forward to this. I replay TNM each time I buy Deus Ex (every few years) and it's like, I don't know..
It's great, but it's a weird experience, in a way. It's like waking up in the past, entering a little pocket of time that's been alive all along, or like I've died and come back to life. I have dreams about TNM from time to time, not because I've played it a whole lot (maybe 5-6 playthroughs) but because playing it is such a surreal experience.
It really does feel like characters from inside Deus Ex have stuck around and kept their little world living. Going back and playing old games usually doesn't feel like that. Playing Deus Ex itself and things like Ultima Underworld, System Shock, etc... it almost feels like all the characters are doomed. When you finish the game, they're all gone; poof. You leave behind the world and it withers away to nothing.
But TNM, it's like I'm just going away, but everyone else (who wasn't crushed into giblets) is still there. I don't really know what you guys did with the mod that makes it so unique, I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I'm glad that you made it, and even more that you're continuing to work on it. There aren't many games where I'll just spend hours walking around the environments, just being there to be there, not even doing the objectives, but TNM grabs me that way.

TNM is unique wherein the setting is so silly you can build in pretty much any direction and the lore can still make sense. It is goofy of course, but because it teeters on the absurd everything feels "right" no matter what.

Is the void between Planets an ocean? Open space with stars and they look like a solar system? Is it sort of a Reboot cartoon scenario with representations of data streams? A giant white void and you just walk from one pedestal to another and press a button to teleport to each City? Who knows, but it can all make sense in the world of TNM.

Unbelievable! I have indentical feelings for TNM! Perhaps it is the setting itself of TNM that makes it unique ; that is a living forum, some kind of matrix - simulation. And all npcs of this mod are great fans of the original Deus ex like us :)
It would be amazing if such simulation exist in the near future and become a protagonist or secondary character of such setting for a limited time of course! well be warned however the cruel nature of the settings of deus ex like death, illness, conspiracy theories, aliens, oh! and the constant night setting :P

I guarantee a conspiracy type game is going to show up in VR eventually. It is a perfect setting for investigation and manipulation of the world to unearth clues, etc.

So excited for a new release. How many brand new maps will the new release have?

I currently plan on three. One is finished and established within the storyline being the widely requested WC Hotel interior. The next two are secret maps that people will have to find on their own!
