The Great Class Dash is a single-player modification for Team Fortress 2 that transforms the game into a side-scrolling platformer. Players will have the chance to play four challenging levels. Additionally, the levels are filled with class-specific obstacles, meaning all nine classes will need to be used to beat the game.
The first public build of the mod has been released!

Hey Everyone! The first public build of the mod has been released! I've also uploaded a trailer showing some of the gameplay, so be sure to check that out.
As I said in the last post, this game is a simple platformer that is meant to test your reflexes. You start out with control of only one class, but more become available as you play.
I had a ton of fantastic ideas for the mod, and got even better ones from the community as I was building it. Unfortunately, I don't know any coding, and that restricted me to building it entirely with in-game scripting. Please keep that in mind when you play, and hopefully it will keep you entertained until the finish!
And feel free to contact me if you have any feedback or comments!
Thanks!

seriously great release! I absolutely loved it.
Thanks TastyRice!
Awesome gonna go play it now!
what happend man? how come you're not the forst commenter? :D
Very funny
Haa ! Oh man.
just 1 min...
Well ok, this IS funny, lmao.
This is really amazing.
Looks awesome, man.
It would be better if it was an actual Source mod and not a map pack.
But it's still really fun. 8/10.
why would that be better, that would just require them to get a coder and recode the tf2 class system, voices etc.
would be better, cause it wouldnt **** up the cfg
Hmmm well I haven't played this yet, but as it seems it doesn't have the same gameplay as TF2, so the only real thing to code is the gameplay wanted. Then mount TF2 to be able to use the models.
But maybe it doesn't work that smoothly, plus Steaky said he doesn't know any coding, he'd basically be asking for help when he's been well capable of doing it on his own. TF2 would be needed to play it both ways, so assuming the gameplay is fun, I'd say ít's a succesfull approach.
Gonna go try this when I've got time!
Exactly right!
I don't know any coding, so it was a choice between in-game scripting, or trying to hire someone for a project I wasn't sure would even succeed. In the end, it turned into kind of a prototype for what would be possible with only scripting, and a great learning experience for my future projects.
I think a source mod would make it more convenient for the user as it becomes easier to install, easier to launch and would slightly reduce loading times. Still, making it a map pack works absolutely fine and I see no problem with it at all.
Just thought I'd say here: Absolutely fantastic mod. I'm going to do a video review of it tomorrow, so I'll post it on here.
Hey Murdouken,
Thanks again! Let me know when your review is done, I'd love to see it!
lol, it works without modded, dont fix something that arnt broken.
looks awesome
Im shattered, i only have TF2 on xbox360, so i cant get this :(
Looks awesome though, really great idea :)
Those little maps are awesome, I love the depth and backdrop! Really visually pleasing. Keep it up.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you like it. My main 'thing' is level design, so I knew from the start that that would probably be the best part of the mod :D
Reminds me somehow on that 2D playstation game Quack Attack

This is literally a few console commands and a map.
This new album I bought. It's LITERALLY just someone playing some instruments. What a rip-off.
Four Maps.... and more than a few console commands :D
Good stuff, too bad "TF2 Modding" means hacking your way around things, still very nice. I didn't finish it and got stuck in a very odd way that it wouldn't even me teleport me back somewhere near the end.
Still I liked it, grats on the release.
Hey Duck!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry about the bug, it sounds like you got stuck in the world. This was the major bug I couldn't fix no matter how hard I tried.
Any way you could smooth out the 'swap' between classes?
I've got to say for in-game scripting and just a bunch of maps it looks like a pretty solid mod, and fun!
Maybe you could include some more variation like when you jump+shoot at the ground you go twice as far or something. or you have to shoot at something in the air or whatever before a gate opens...
I have no idea what you can and can not do with scripting.
Good job so far!
Hi notoriginal,
I definitely had plans for including something like that. Actually my first plan had the soldier being able to rocket jump. Unfortunately, there's no real way to modify which way the player is looking at without completely messing up the camera.
Unfortunately I had to keep it simple do to the scripting limitations.
Hi there! Well they need to aim for the ground if they want to rocketjump... so you don't have to force them, it's up to them.
That way you can still make them shoot at something else, for instance to open a passageway.
You could also have the player press a button rather than move the mouse. So a combination of Shift and Ctrl for example.
Glitchy.
An interesting idea. Will we see more combat? Sort of like Metroid, getting upgrades n' junk? ^^

Looks like trine if you really think about it =D
So apparently:
ALL 3D Sidescrollers=Trine Ripoff?
Seriously, play more games.
Maybe Trine is just so good that it made em forget everything they thought they knew about 3d side scrollers :P (Cause it is)
I love it, but it randomly gets stuck as I change class sometimes, and I can fire but not jump, crouch or even move.. could you patch this or tell me how to fix it.
ahaahah so nice !
On Egypt, it broke after I went heavy, smashed through a wall and then went scout. I got stuck in the wall and could do nothing. I couldn't even go to the menu or console. Hitting backspace didn't work.
Hey Miroku,
Sorry about the bug, I'm working on a fix for when you get stuck!
I downloaded this as soon as I saw "Single-Player" TF2 without my crappy ping? :D
Nice work!
best mod ever
awesome !
I really like the mod. I was playing through it and got to the Volcano level. During this level, I did notice some odd things happen. On pressing a random key (maybe it was one of the class change or just a random one) I remember being moved to spawn inside the wood ramps in the cave portion.
I exec mybackup when I finished and entered a regular server. I found that the auto-run that was featured in the mod was active in this regular server. Is there a setting in game to fix this issue besides relaunching TF2?
Hey Dominion,
I'll definitely include a fix for the autorun in the next version. In the mean time, typing -forward into the console will fix it.
Next time I run into the issue I will use that command
Well alot of what im about to say has probably already been said but meh.
for what is actually customizable in tf2 you did REALLY good.
and just so everyone knows a coder would be useless valve havent released the source code for TF2, Portal, CS:S or DOD:S they are only available to valve coders (top security ****)
valve only released the source code for HL2 (for ep1 engine) and the back-end of the EP2 engine so a coder would be useless unless you want to recode EP2 to run like TF2 and then modify that.
i did find the mod a bit glitchy getting stuck in some areas having to reload maps ect. ect. i think you should add a reset button that resets you to the last "capped" CP. my only idea would be adding another command when you cap a CP. binding the reset button to the last CP position.
next step would be separating the mod from the TF2 folder into it's own mod folder would make things 100% easier with scripting if you ask me.
looking at the decompiled maps :P i do have some constructive criticism for you.
there are some areas that could be redone (and correct me if im wrong but do i see possible compatibility with multi player? if not then what are the point_clientcommand AND point_servercommand entity's doing you should only need the one for single player) your teleport system COULD be redone using one triggered entity to teleport to a chosen info_target. this could also help with the "reset" button
on another note i can give you some free hosting for the mod if you want not like that horrible yola either PM me if you want more details
Hey Diesal,
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I know about the bug where you get stuck, and in the next version I will at the least add a fix where you can press a button to teleport back to the last checkpoint.
The duplicate client and server commands aren't for multiplayer. I can't specifically remember the reason, but I think it was because some of the commands didn't work properly when targeted to one or the other, so I choose to have both running. I know its horrible practice, but it worked :D
Im not sure what you mean by redoing the teleport. Is it possible to change the destination with IOs?
Anyways, thanks for the offer to host, but I'm okay. Unfortunately, I don't know how to build websites, so I was forced to find a free host with a site-builder and no bandwidth limit. I think its working okay for now :D
