It's here!!It's been a long, five year journey to this point, and Broken Glass Studios is proud to present the beta of The Dark Mod. We are also releasing four missions, including a beautiful and extensive training mission where you can practice all the new TDM skills. After honing your skills, you'll probably want to play some missions, you can find them here.

Thats awesome! Though, I don't understand how 1.0 is considered a beta when it isn't even the final product. :/
You can have the first whole version of a beta, hence 1.0b. Remember how for example Counter Strike reached 6.5b back in the days, then they release 1.0 as a non beta version.

this is just the updator that's ~400k. that downloads the mod (resume-able via the updater no less!)
There's a copy of the whole thing on fileplanet that does support resume-able downloads and could/could not be faster then the updater, when you still need to run the updater after it's installed: Planetdoom.gamespy.com
My hat goes off to broken glass studios, well done guys, this is really a big achievement, and it's wonderful to see developers actually achieve something like this over such a large period of time.
It will be great to see what you guys have in store for the future :)

I need to download the mod at work and I don't have Doom3 installed. Is there a way to download the 1.5 Gig package without your installer and then manually run it? Or does Doom3 have to be installed to download?
I've only played through part of the training and THE DARK MOD IS AMAZING!
I am very impressed with the graphics, sound, interactions and gameplay so far.
I love how you have to move the mouse in order to swing your sword in different direction or parry in directions. This makes it very difficult to fight one-on-one which encourages us to stay in the shadows and save often. Parrying will take some practice.
I also love how you can pick up or move many different objects like in Dark Messiah & Oblivion. Hopefully we can throw object to distract a guard....
Great Job Developers! I am very enthusiastic about playing The Dark Mod and the storyline. Keep up the amazing work!
If you don't have Doom3 installed because you want to download it from work (faster internet) then:
1. download tdm_update.exe
2. duplicate tdm_update.exe
3. rename to tdm_update.zip
4. extract zip folder in - C:\Games\Doom3\darkmod
5. double-click original tdm_update.exe
6. tdm_update will self-download and create all directories for DarkMod
7. copy/paste darkmod folder into your external drive (flash drive)
8. paste into Doom3 folder on your other computer where Doom3 is installed
9. Then use the "tdmlauncher.exe" file to launch The Dark Mod
10. use the "tdm_update.exe" tool to download newer content without having to download the entire mod again
