This EPIC mod adds six new factions of men to the Rise of the Witch King expansion allowing you to controle any of the races of men that participated in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

It has more than forty new heroes and absolutely tons of new buildings and units for the new armies.



This mod must be played with the Model Detail set to Maximum.



It took 1 guy 10 years, has 13 Factions, 75+ Heroes, 150+ different units and 200+ Special abilities.



Elves

This army is virtually unchanged.

Dwarves

This army has three new heroes but very little other changes.

Gondor

Men of the West have been renamed as Gondor and have had the Rohan heroes removed. It has a new hero and a new unit but other than that, remains pretty much the same.

Rohan

This is the army of Rohan that protects the city of Edoras and all the lands that fall under its protection. They have six heroes, some old and one new.They pretty much have all the old buildings from BfMe I and one new one and quite a few new units.

Rhovanion

This army is the Beornings and Men from Laketown and the Vales of Anduin. The basic units consist of men from Laketown and the Vales of Anduin but all the elite units are Beornings. This army has six heroes, three Beornings, two human and one Istari.

Arnor

This is pretty much the same as the Arnor encountered in the campaign but with six new Heroes and a few new units.

Isengard

This army has two new heroes but very little other changes.

Goblins

This army has one new heroes but very little other changes.

Angmar

This army is virtually unchanged.

Mordor

This army has one new hero but has had all the human units removed. It has a lot of the units improved and a few new ones added.

Harad

This army is the southern tribes of the Haradrim. This army makes use of magic with a spellcaster unit and hero. They also make use of the massive creatures that wander in the far south, using them as their siege weaponry. They have six heroes .All the basic units are men but the elite unit is also a creature of the far south.

Rhûn

This army is the eastern tribes of the Variags, Wainriders and Men of Rhun. This army relies on heavily armoured Units and Cavalry and the chariots of the Wainriders. They have six heroes and some heavy hitting elite cavalry. Being as technologically advanced as Gondor or the Dwarves, then make full use of siege engines.

King's Men

These are the descendants of the King's Men, Numenorean's that were corrupted by the desire for eternal life and power over men of other, lesser races. As well as wielding magic, this army also employ one of the most sinister creatures still found in Arda. This army has six heroes.

Create-A-Heroes

Select the "Hero" drop down menu when setting up your battle. Click on any of the greyed out heros, then press the first letter of your Hero's name. Just press the letter a second or two after you click on a hero.
Also, If you have several heros begining with the same letter, then you can just repeat the prosess and it will cycle through them in alphabetical order.


Installing the Mod

    1. After extracting the mod, put it in your desired drive (something like "C:\Battle Of The Pelennor Fields" or "D:\Battle Of The Pelennor Fields" )


    1. Then make a copy of your shortcut that you use to run the RotWK game.


    1. Go to the properties of the new shortcut and edit the target. Add this to the end of it (don't add these of corse, [ ] ). [ -mod "C:\Battle Of The Pelennor Fields"]. You need to add this exactly as it is here or it won't work. It should look something like this: "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Lord of the Rings, The Rise of the Witch-king\lotrbfme2ep1.exe" -mod "C:\Battle Of The Pelennor Fields". It's possibe that your Game may be installed in a different location but as long as you add [ -mod "C:\Battle Of The Pelennor Fields"] to the end of it, it should all work.


  1. You can now load up the mod with this shortcut. You may want to change the shortcut image to something different too but thats optional.

Problem Shooting

Sometimes some of the modles ingame won't appear. This is generally solved by running the game in Compatability Mode. Here's hot to run your game in Compatability Mode:
Right click the shortcut or desktop icon that you use to load the game. Select the "Properties" option and when the window opens, look for the "Compatability" tab. Then tick the "Run this programe in compatability mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Now click "OK".

Final Release!

I have released what I hope will be the final version of my mod. All bugs should be solved and everything should run smoothly.


A little bit of backstory.

When I started this mod about 10 years ago, I was a single guy with no experience of modding. It initially began as a mod just to add a full working Arnor faction to the game for my own enjoyment. After completing that and getting a basic handle of coding, I decided to create a new faction, the Beornings. I would spend a few hours at a time after work and maybe again at the weekend, slowly chipping away at it. Progress was slow but as I was only making it for my own enjoyment, I wasn't bothered.

Since then I have met my missus and have had six kids so what time I had to spend was steadily getting less and less. Somewhere along the way, I finished the Beornings but decided to really get the mod I wanted, I would have to add all the races of men. That's really the point I decided to create "The Battle of the Pelennor Fields". So, after so many years, here it is. Despite releasing this mod to the public and being quite happy to take suggestions along the way, this mod was still created principally for my own enjoyment.


EPIC mod with massive coding.

Over the course of making this mod I have become quite proficient at coding but always steered clear of modelling. As a result, virtually the whole mod is coding based with very, very little in the way of new or edited models. What I did add was actually unused things that I found in the game files. What I edited was only after many years of resisting and was only minor things like adding Forged Blades to existing models.

So, with all that in mind, don't be surprised by the lack of new models, I'm not trying to sell this as something it not. It is an EPIC mod with tons of new Factions, Heroes, abilities, units and buildings but their models are mainly reskins of existing stuff and a SHED LOAD of cool coding (there are some pretty amazing hero abilities in there, go check them out!). Actually, the mod is SO big it that I can't add anything else. Many of the files won't take any more entries and cause game crashes if I add more.


On the down side...

Unfortunately there's a down side to making a mod this massive. The mod is so big that it can't manage multiplayer games. Apparently, if a mod has too many factions, online games struggle to handle it.

Now, I haven't tested this personally but have come across it in the modding forums. Also, looking at peoples feedback on the mod, it would seem to suggest that this may be correct. All that being said, this latest release should have all issues resolved and may work perfectly.

Again, I have to point out that when making this mod, my main motivation was for my own entertainment and not so much for online game. I am really sorry though if you do like the mod and find that you are unable to play with your friends.

if you want my opinion, you could use the content there to create another faction: the monsters of north!in the book the wargs are the offspring of werewolves with wolves, so I thought:and if there was a faction where there are only the remaining creatures, just like the king’s men have black Numenorians,this would mainly have wolves and wargs and some spiders (only spiders without riders) and of course werewolves will be heroic units, or maybe trolls? of course no orcs or goblins or archery units for these savages...another suggestion: according to the book the hobbit only the important orcs can mount a warg and nimguem can mount the important wargs (the alphas) that is to say those who have a mount are weaker in attack but would have more defense and those who do not carry anyone should bite with more strength but would have less defense ...

I mean it wouldn’t be so unbalanced, in the beginning it would have to say: wolves (like angmar) and spiders and after evolving the den or cave it would be possible to train wargs (maybe update them with some warg that would make them stronger or something, just not to depend on the howling) on something like a mountain troll (on a different construction like the drake of the goblin fortress) and in the end werewolves and vampire perhaps (in Tolkien's book vampires are basically bats as big as men and as smart as they are)in the films it seems that wargs are just beasts but that is not true in Tolkien's books wargs and werewolves are as thoughtful as humans and elves
