You might try using propper (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Propper) to convert some of those brushwork supports into models. It would probably increase performance.
That would be a bit complicated. They probably make them into func_detail -s, so it won't lag. But thanks for the link, anyway. I always wanted to make props in hammer. :D
Yeah i don't know about that. I've looked into propper but i don't know how well it would make a collision model for it... We weighed the option of using models early on, we just went with func_details instead.
