Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about Swartz mod.

F.A.Q

Q: I'm having trouble installing your mod, how do I install it?
A:
Extract the Gamedata folder to your main COP folder. Then open up the 'Scopes' folder, choose your monitor type, and then copy/paste the folder into your gamedata directory. Then go into your COP directory/bin folder and back up all the Xr_Render_blah.dll files. Now go into the bin folder of the downloaded mod and extract the contents to your COP bin folder, allowing it to overwrite the files.

If you've never installed a mod before you'll also need to modify a file in your main COP directory called "fsgame.ltx". There should be a line that says "$game_data$". Make sure that's followed by "true | true"

Update: v2.0 will be using an installer which will also create backups of any replaced files. You won't need to copy paste from various folders anymore, you can just select your options from the installer menu.

Q: The game is crashing on me, halp!

A: I can't help you without knowing what your crash log says. Go into your X:/Public OR Admin/Documents/Stalker COP/Logs/ directory, find the newest one and copy/paste the "Fatal Error" section at the end of the log for me to see.

Q: The log file says something about being out of memory?
A: Swartz mod is more system intensive than vanilla COP for several reasons. One reason is that it incorporates Atmosfear 3, another is that there a lot of new models and textures the game has to load. If you're getting these errors you're likely either on a 32-bit system, or have less than 4gb of RAM.

Q: Why are the ironsights on some of the guns all messed up?
A: It may have something to do with a glitch in the sights on the model or simply my inability to align them properly. I'm sorry to say that it is very time consuming and unrewarding process, therefore it is not a high priority to correct them. If you would like to correct them, PM me as I have a tool you can use to do it.

Update: In v2.0 all iron-sights are aligned correctly.

Q: Why is there no Geiger Counter?

A: Due to a 'trick' involving the way radiation damage is done in the mod the Geiger Counter in the game does not function correctly. It fails to detect radiation. Because of this I had to remove it until a way around it can be found.

Update: The Geiger Counter will work once again, as well as all corresponding icons, in the new version.

Q: Will you add gun XYZ?

A: Not unless you can give me a compelling argument as to WHY I should add the gun you want. Please don't bug me with gun requests unless you can give me a good reason.

Q: Atmosfear 3 is too intensive on my system. Will you make a version without it?

A: No. It's 2013. It's time to upgrade.

Q: Why are all the inventory icons screwed up?
A: Apparently the DX9 renderer for CoP is shit, so textures larger than 2048x2048 can cause issues with people on certain systems using DX9. I've fixed this in v2.0.

Q: What are the recommended system requirements for the upcoming v2.0?
A:

CPU: Quad-core, the faster the better.
RAM: Minimum of 4gb, but I highly recommend 8gb+
Vid card: AMD HD 5870 or newer OR Nvidia GTX 560Ti or newer
I also recommend a solid-state drive. Stalker is somewhat I/O dependent so it may help.

Note: I'm not making the system requirements higher to be an ass: various new features simply require more powerful hardware, and at this point people should already have the minimum specs listed as they're needed for any modern game. Sorry to anyone who gets left behind due to this.

Q: I enjoy the gunplay in the mod but the radiation gimmick is kinda dumb. Can I disable it?
A:
Although I thought it was neat when I first implemented it, I agree, it is a bit dumb. You can disable most of the radiation by going into your gamedata folder and deleting gamemtl.xr. In 2.0 I am abandoning the focus on radiation. Radiation will be more dangerous than vanilla, but I will no longer be approaching it the same way.
Q: How big is the mod unpacked?
A:
The current version (1.3) is around 3gb unpacked. v2.0 is currently around 4.9gb unpacked and I haven't even added all the weapons yet or any of the new maps. It will be in multiple parts on ModDB when released as well as a torrent to download from.
Q: When will 2.0 be released?
A:
I'm dead-set on using Bangalore's map pack when it's released and I strongly believe he should take his time to perfect it. Once he does I can only then begin adding new quests and stuff, so you're likely in for a bit of a wait. Don't expect the mod to be released this summer, it won't happen.
However, if I get enough requests I may consider doing a "v1.9" release which would just be on the vanilla maps with a few modded quests and all the rest of the 2.0 content.
