Are you sure? Even with all those windows?

big ship, big slopping saucer, windows matched up to actual decks, mostly. from the pictures, it looks that the top of the saucer might be a bit too flat, a common issue with all the ambassador models people have made over the years.

too many ship designers try to recreate the look of the galaxy class, covered with windows, on whatever they are working on. but the ship they make are always ether too small, or too flat to ever have that look, and make it work. especially on most of those cryptic designs in STO, good god they are all lousy with impossible windows.

Helmsman: Sir, we're coming up on the Ambassador!
Me: Drop us out of warp.
*USS Archangel drops out of warp*
Tactical Officer: Ambassador 38,000 kilometers dead ahead.
Me: Red Alert, shields up, power to weapons, target the Ambassador.
Tactical Officer: Shields are up, weapons at the ready, sir!
Me: FIRE!!!!
*Ambassador explodes in a glorious inferno as several Photon and Quantum Torpedoes slam into her hull*

Congratulations, you took out an almost 50 year old starship. In a sneak attack. Using far more advanced weapons. While her shields were down.

Glory to you, and your house.

Hmmm...considering that the Excelsior managed to get a refit that drastically increased their strength in battle, I wonder what an Ambassador class refit could do...

I wouldn't be too surprised if a refitted Ambassador could defeat an original pre-refit Galaxy class.

Its refits brought it up to modern standards, but the Galaxy is definitely the superior of the two. By the time of TNG the Ambassador is an old warhorse - solid, reliable, tried and true. The Nebula and Galaxy classes may have knocked her off the top of the food chain, but she's still a fine and formidable ship.

Oh, I meant a refit for during the Dominion War...which just made me realize I don't believe we ever see an Ambassador in DS9.

I still remember playing Star Trek Fleet Command III, slapping in a ton of mods and busting out the Ambassador. It made a pretty good battlecruiser once refitted with some more powerful weapons, I'd say it could take on a Vor'cha and win if in the hands of a good captain and with a few tweaks.

We saw one at the start of 'Emissary'. It didn't end well for the Yamaguchi.

Think someone could make a Dawnstar class? I always thought it looked like an upgraded Ambassador class.

Believe it or not, Intrepid, that IS an Ambassador class. Or rather, it was meant to be. That ship was based on the original concept designs for the Enterprise-C by producer Andrew Probert. It didn't make the final cut for the series but the design has become popular in fan art, usually under a different name, such as 'Dawnstar class' (I like that one).

Good news for you and other fans of the design - it will feature in this expansion. Check a few pictures back for a taste. :)

That is indeed a good name :) especialy considering that a fan design shared the name and somewhat look.

Yup. Apart from the nacelles, a different colour deflector and a minor modification to the saucer, they're identical.

on that what will now probably be known as dawnstar class, lol, I've noticed other modelers have put a connie refit style impulse engine on the back of the saucer, which imo ruins the design with a totally out of place and outdated feature. in the painting, you cant even see that part of the ship, its not some concrete part of the design, its a box that's got no place on a ship with organic GCS like design language. please don't also put it on the one you are building.

oh and also build this thing next! 40.media.tumblr.com
