Source Racer was started development on in early January 2005 by its past leader Stefan. It had a few great releases which fired up a fairly big community. After febuary updates slowed down and came to a full stop. Support for the mod was stopped and no one heard anything from Stefan. After a few months the community became bored of the standard release which they had been playing for around 4 months.
I decided to contact Stefan to see what was going on with the mod. He explained how he didn't have time to continue development on the mod. I had a few weeks to think about it but i finally decided that i wanted to extend Source Racer's life. I contacted Stefan asking if i could continue on with the mod. After a long discussion he decided to let me continue where he left off with Source Karts. He gave me the source code and i began coding into the mod.
For those who don't know what Source Racer is. It is an arcade style, comeptetive and fun racing mod for Half-Life 2. Which brings exciting gameplay to the tense Half-Life 2 environment. The aim of the game is to get lower lap times around the track. The one who finishes first wins.
In the new versions which i am working on i am looking to extend some of the features, add some new elements and a good variety of things. We are happy to recieve comments and suggestions from the community in what we can do to improve the mod. One of the main issues with Source Racer was the fact that most servers were across the world from where people would play. If you lived in Europe you would usually be missing out because the majority of servers were located in America unless you created your own. We aim to hit a wider audience and try to attract attention from all sorts of places so that everyone can enjoy the mod as we all enjoy it.
Hi guys, some people may think the mod is dead but we are not. We are just a little quiet over the christmas period for obvious reasons. I thought we would fill you in with what has been happening with Source Racer.
We have had our wonderful modellers and animators to create some cool props for the new version 3. Although we don't have much media i can assure you that you will see much better media soon.
Firstly, here is our purposed Airboat model which as been hyped up for racing. It is not the final version but you can expect something like this.
Secondly, we have one of the banners which will be displayed at checkpoints etc.
Thirdly, we have our awesome collection of beautifully made signs Balatron.
Fourthly, we have our new pickup model. Please note this isn't the final model, just a purposed model.
That's it for today, we apologise for no screenshots of new maps, purely because we are still working hard on our maps. Please visit the mod forums and register there. We are always happy to recieve feedback on the mod and ideas.
