The most famous of all crossbow marksmen, the Pavise Arbalest is a heavier version of the Arbalestier. Sacrificing hitpoints and speed for added armour and damage, Pavise Arbalests are highly useful in defensive situations, where you want to command the battlefield or deny ground to an opponent.
They damn took their time, but a quick adjustment now means that Pavise Arbalests now act every bit as pretty as they look. As you can see, 12 of their number have their shields down when not fighting, while the others are marching. The reason why they wear strange tall caps is because they are Moors - this form of headgear was very common amongst European Muslims in Spain, and is fitting since like their Christian cousins, Spanish Muslims were avid crossbow users in combat.
