Rise of Kings is a revolutionary total conversion modification for Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots that recreates the Medieval era. Set across 3 ages and with 24 factions to choose from, this is one of the largest and most ambitious mods for Rise of Nations.

Description

This version of Rise of Kings contains all units, technologies, and possible buildings ... we however have not fully completed balance issues for units, nor have we taken care of descriptions yet, but rest assured we shall be working on it for some time. New updates: 1 June, 2013: new icons for Age techs 2 June, 2013: building rules have been re-rigged so that not all Imperial Mandate nations have the same buildings.

No need to panic, we're all noobs here :)

I've written a quick guide at Ronriseofkings.wikia.com that should've been given more prominence, but generally it should help.

Isn't the mod folder meant to go in the main Rise of Nations folder rather than the Thrones and Patriots folder?

Also, note that the location of the Rise of Nations folder is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations", or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations" if you have the game on Windows 7.

I followed the install instructions, but there is absolutely no change in my game. Nothing is different, nothing says "Rise of Kings", no new civs, no mods to select, Nothing man!

Try putting the 'Rise of Kings 1.0' folder in "./Rise of Nations/mods" rather than in the Thrones and Patriots folder. Then you should be able to select Rise of Kings under the game modifications tab in the quick battle menu.

I figured the problem, I had a "mod" folder instead of mods. Thank you, your post is what helped me figure that out.

Also, should the game rules be set to medieval only when playing?

You can play in three ages - the Classical, Medieval and Gunpowder ages. These become the Dark, Castle and Imperial Ages in the mod. I'm sorry about the lack of clear instructions, we will make a complete readme for the next release.

You will need to create the folder yourself. Make sure that you call it 'mods'.

The Divine Mandate tech is only available to the Russians, Byzantines, Armenians, Japanese, Chinese and Mongols, so it may not be available to the faction you were using.

Make sure that the art files are located in "mods/Rise of Kings 1.0/art" inside your Rise of Nations folder. Any other location, or any misspelled folder names will cause the game to crash. Did you get this error on starting a game or did it happen sometime during a game? If it was during the game, did it happen after you trained a certain unit, built a certain building or used a certain general or spy ability?

Make sure that you've created the mod folder in your main Rise of Nations directory, not the Thrones and Patriots one, and place the Rise of Kings folder in there. Then you should be able to select Rise of Kings from the game mods in the quick battle menu.

The mod is great. Really i love it. But I have a question. I thought the british in the original game are supposed to be the Venetians but they are the Byzantines in the mod. And I can´t play the CTW-Campaign somehow? Please help!

Super7700 Nov 4 2013, 2:13am replied:

Thank you for your feedback. We made a few changes to the faction bonuses, so now the Byzantines replace the original British while the Venetians replace the original Dutch. I don't think the mod wiki or faction descriptions have been updated to reflect that, but we'll make sure that these details are more clear and accurate for the next release. At the moment there is no playable CTW campaign for this mod, though we have started work on one. Since we are busy with other things the campaign is not a priority at the moment, though we may try finishing it in the future.

There are a few bugs with units missing weapons, so I'll make sure that they are fixed for the next release. do you remember what faction you were using?

We are planning to release a patch in early December. While it primarily will be for balancing, it is likely that there'll be some bug fixes and a few new models included as well.

Hi, first i want say thanks for this mod is amazing (sorry for my english i am from spain so i will do my best)

I downloaded RKC_noflavortext.2.zip wich i think is the last version of your mod. After unzip i moved only the folder Rise of Kings 1.0 inside the Mods folder and i played perfect.

But my cuestion is, inside the folder RKC_noflavortext.2 i saw others folders...such copy into your script folder in the T&P scenario folder - place contents in TaP art folder - place contents in TaP data folder...so the contents of these three folders where should place them?. w.e the mod work perfect for me only playing with the folder rise of kings 1.0 inside the mod folder. well sorry for my ignorance and for make my post a little long. Thanks a lot i love your mod.

Those files are important as they add new icons, sounds and allow you to use the Rise of Kings script. T&P stands for Thrones and Patriots, you can find the Thrones and Patriots folder inside the main Rise of Nations folder. So the T&P data folder is located at Rise of Nations/Thrones and Patriots/data, the T&P art files are in Rise of Nations/Thrones and Patriots/art, and the script folder is at Rise of Nations/Thrones and Patriots/scenario/script. I hope that helps, let me know if there are any problems.

Thanks a lot for answer, finally i moved all and work perfect playing with papal state now xd :).
First i did was make a backup of original folders TP art - data and scenario to my usb drive. Then follow your instructions.

two last cuestions:

1 the folder mods always must be in C:\Archivos de programa\Rise of Nations Gold\mods?

2 do you know if i can install terrain flora and fauna mod and still playing with your mod? .

I like a lot your mod but also i want to try improbe the textures and graphics of rise of nations using that terrain mod.

thx a lot great mod!.

Super7700 Feb 1 2014, 9:33pm replied:

1. It depends on the mod really. Some have been made to replace the core files (the terrain flora and fauna mod is an example of that), though most go in the mod folder.

2. The terrain flora and fauna should be completely compatible with this mod.

oke i understand, thanks for your answer and for your help to install your mod.
I always like to play more in older ages than in modern age and i hope someone one day can make a mod based in the 3rd slaves war or gladiators war theme with spartacus, crixus so on at rise of nations...i think would be great!!! i love that history moment xd :). bye and thanks.
