Description

The one reason why we have not given you RKC 7: we want to finish off all non-Catholic cavalry first before going further; the last few mounted units to be included in further releases post-RKC 7 will be the Italian elmetti, as well as Christian autocrat patriots.

This unit is meant to serve as an improved version of light cavalry, or to be more precise, a "lighter" version of the coustillier in that it sacrifices hitpoints for added armour, being clad in a curious mix that can be best described as Gallo-Armenian. It will be one of four units for Armenia, the others being the Aspatak skirmishers, Cilician frontiersmen and Azat infantry. The best part about Armenia is that like the Mongols, they receive all cavalry units - chivalric orders included - at the cost of late-game efficiency. Religion-wise, Armenia is represented as an oddball faction which combines elements from both Catholic and Orthodox civs.

Some of you might be wondering, "Why Armenia? all we know about Armenia is that they whinge about the First World War!"

All the better, but there are even better reasons for doing so:

- The unique history of Armenia - first as a Byzantine client-"kingdom", and then a principality-in-exile in what is south-eastern Turkey today.
- Armenia played a greater role in Western European history during the Middle Ages than is often assumed by most people, despite being destroyed and then later on reconstituting itself on a smaller scale, only to be destroyed for good again (the author is aware of the existence of the Bulgarian Empire of the Middle Ages, though).
- Bulgaria, a VERY close runner-up was seen as being rather bland and boring (having mostly a mix of units already seen under Poland, Russia and Mongolia). So sorry and sachalyavam to all of you who had high hopes, although I have laid out plans for a second mod based off Rise of Kings with Bulgaria in it - a mod's usual winning quality is its aesthetics.
