To our fellow renegades!
It has been a couple months since you've heard from the team. Your friends over at Renegade X have been busy working on the mod and producing quality work for our summer updates.
Summer '09 Trailer!
But if I were to say that the team has only been working in the past two months wouldn't be the full truth. The fact of the matter is, the Renegade X dev team and the VIPs have also been busy testing the mod. In other words, we've been playing a lot of Renegade X. And before we bring you one of our usual art updates, which you will see later this summer, we at Renegade X thought it would be great if we released some of the gameplay footage that has been recorded, alongside ingame screenshots of the mod.
The mod has developed quite a bit since our last couple updates. Since then, we've worked on our HUD & created a new bounding-box system, rigged new vehicles, weapons, and characters, and we've taken more steps towards completing our highly anticipated Command & Conquer mode. But don't take my word for it.

Looks much better than the original game! great work guys, keep on doing the mod, this is something worth looking forward to!!!!
Nice
Wow, its looking really good!
Looks pretty good, my only nitpick is the troops jumping around, it looks ridiculous, and it's not quake or UT (or is it what this has become?). If troops are gonna jump around like that, at least allow us to customize our troops and put a bunny costume on o_O
Maybe just add some sortof stamina system where players can't bounce around so much like they do in the COD games or Far Cry 2, you jump once, then any successive jump gets lower until your character can't really jump at all.
Otherwise, I love everything else, it looks so very well done; the visuals are fantastic, your texture work for the vehicles and troops are really well done, especially the models. The animations obviously need a LITTLE bit more work, but otherwise they are looking pretty spiffy, the levels look open while at the same time having bottlenecks to create some high intensity action, and...yeah, mental blank now lol.
Keep up the good work, and looking forward to the next update :D
Yeah I have a massive axe to grind about the infantry combat.
I mean, sure the original game was 'Quakey' too, but here we have an opportunity to do things slightly differently without the limitations of the original game engine... just seems like a wasted opportunity to me. It's also one of the reasons I quit playing the original game - just couldn't be bothered with 'twitch-shooting' anymore. If I want to play a twitcher, I'll load up quake or UT, both of which do it much better than Renegade ever could.
It would be tragic to have this one disappointing feature spoil an otherwise amazing mod.
They'd have to overhaul the movement system and attempt to make weaponry more powerful with the right uses, maybe prone and other abilities, like climbing ledges?
Of course a stamina system is needed, otherwise you'd be dealing with hopping troops left and right, when the point of the game is commandos vs commandos whether it be on foot or in a vehicle...
It would be interesting if they could come up with a way to mix your typical third person shooter with a advanced movement system, so you could have a commando wait at the top of a wall, a tank passes by, the commando jumps and attempts to hijack it.
I have to say I completely agree. Half the games you play online now half the people on there bounce around like idiots. I dont know, maybe they think they're being cool, but I never EVER had to do that to get ahead in ANY FPS including the origional Renegade to get ahead in a game.
Jumping around 100% of the time just makes the person doing it look like a complete newb, because it has no tactical advantages whatsoever. They definitly need to add a stamina system in, and tack on a 25 second cooldown on jumping.
Seriously, being able to jump around like a moron is just going to be a serious detractorr for the mod since it will ruin the ambiance and is, not to mention, totally unrealistic. Always has, always will. And unless someone can post a clip of a Navy Seal training camp or something training real-life military troops to jump around like jackrabbits while being attacked by enemy forces, you be sure to let me know. For right now, Im casting my vote with the rest of the "limiting jumping" group.
------------------------------------------
Now that thats taken care of, I have to say the mod is beautiful. Your Sakura model seriously rocks, looking forward to seeing Hotwire. Armor combat looks very well implemented.
Looking forward to playing some good old fashioned skirmish.
The original Command and Conquer Renegade was never ment to be realistic, and regardless that we are making slight changes to the gameplay in Renegade X; it is still Renegade. Name one thing in the original Renegade that was realistic. This is not a realistic mod what so ever and should not be intended as such. As fobby has mentioned in the news, we had played a **** load of Renegade X lately, and we can tell you first hand that the infintry combat is addictingly fun.
As per jumping having no tactical advantage. There is infact a tactical advantage to jumping regardless of what any one says. Logically speaking you would have to track your target not only in the horizontal direction but also the verticle direction. So really it makes it difficult to aim and hit a target. Especially with renegade where shooting the head deals a lot more damage then anywhere else. Since most of the weapons are quite weak, shooting the head is the best way to kill a guy. Jumping to try and not keep your head in the same elevation as the guy trying to kill you, really helps your survivability. So yes there is infact a tactical advantage to jumping.
So all in all, we will not be adding any stamina meter with a cool down period. If this becomes an issue the most we would do is that you cant jump for a second or two after jumping. But dont count on it because it probably wont happen.
Eather you havent played the original game or are 1 of those n00bs who Keeps saying "Dammm retarded sniper **** you" Because headshots hurt a lot more then bodyshot jumping DID AND WILL give a tactical advantages.
If you've never played the original game, jumping around like that was a very important tactic.
The idea of the mod seems to be porting Renegade to the UT3 engine, which from the looks of the video, they are doing a great job at.
Yeah it seems like most people never played the original. Quake and UT were not superior in twitch, because each had their own style.
Renegade made the effects of mob combat more effective then 1 on 1 games, and kept the classic C&C traits like infantry being completely useless vs armored vehicles, and vehicles like tanks do incredibly little damage to infantry. Jumping is VERY common in renegade for weaker auto and power weapon classes.
Perfect!!
Wow! Very nice! It's just.. wow :/
Have to agree with Otreum about the bunny costume though, lol.
About the only thing I can criticize is the jerky side-to-side motion of third person of character movement. Its pretty distracting.
Otherwise it looks fantastic.
will this mod have better online support than other ut3 mods
cause my mod filter almost never finds servers for mods from wich I know there are servers available even if it were only 2
i like :D
iJiz in mah soiled and dirty pantz
this is so perfect. You should be paid for this stuff.
Incredible work guys, outstanding quality, Renegade has never looked this good!
2 words - Holy S**T - this is going to be awsome
Please do not make the Nod Artillery the same as it was in the original Renegade, it was very unbalanced. Those artillery shells are supposed to lob not shoot like a tank...
Unbalanced? I don't know if that's the right word. In C&C Renegade the Artillery and MRLS were pretty balanced because although the Artillery was more versatile, the MRLS dealt a lot more damage and were able to lock onto units.
If we did a TD-styled artillery in our mod, now that would be unbalanced.
I loved the original Renegade and if you guys get it right, (by the looks of it you do) this will be a blast to play.
Looks better every time I see it.
I loved the original. I really hope you don't change it at all, or it's not a remake, but your interpretation of it. Though I can understand if you will. The Original was great, and well, is still great, but with Hacks available easily for it, and no real anti-cheat, even on servers that HAVE Anti-cheat...it can be bothersome if you have a hacker playing as Havok with his upgraded sniper...aimbotting, he can take out a whole team of infantry no problem.
I've NEVER had a problem with hackers on renegade. Join the right servers and they have active admins 24/7 along with 30-60 players 24/7.
I can remember "Jelly-Server" hosting 44 players being my favorite for its low ping and constant playerbase.
Yeah cheaters are not really a problem these days. It hasn't been for a while.
Wow, that video is just gorgeous, I cannot wait until you release a beta! (discluding the Hourglass map preview)
Great Video!! It really needed to be HD.
I think the "indoor"-textures don't fit that well, they look like UT3.
The music remakes fit perfectly!
The box system also seams to be a nice feature..could be connected to the radar-building (which i think was not in the renegade multiplayer)
Fantastic work, can't wait to play!
Cant wait until the GDI update...
There will be a GDI update right...?
Even better :P Just give it some time.
Pukingly glorious trailer and screens, love the remixed sound of the old C&C themes. Bravo!
Ahh renegade. I'll always remember you fondly.
Hey guys - I just wanted to let you know to please remember the gameplay. If you can't perfect it or make it addicting - just please copy Renegade's original gameplay (speed, health, etc) I don't want enemies that move at lightning speed or guns that take forever to kill a guy. Wish you guys all the best for Renegade X!
For the record, for those who complain about the infantry action being "too fast" or "too unrealistic" with the quick moving and jumping, I say please wait patiently. From afar or a video it may not look like much, but no trailer or screenshot can really do it justice. The infantry battles in our mod are definitely unique and one of the most fun aspects of the current build. The entire dev team and VIPs find infantry battles to be incredibly awesome when playing it.
We are not interested in creating a totally realistic Battlefield/Rainbow Six/Call of Duty styled infantry combat system. Rather we want to keep the classic FPS style of UT and Renegade, with quick movement, lots of ammo, a good amount of health (and not two hit kills with pistols...), a static retical, and smooth movement.
Lol those games weren't realistic XD. They ruined the realism with a few bad gameplay mechanics ruining it (especially CoD).
I personally think it looks great, and so far it's holding very true to the original. Most of the people on moddb probably never experienced the glory that was Online Renegade back in the day. Just because it looks like a military game doesn't mean it has to play like every other one on the market. Renegade had that fun style that made it a GREAT online game, especially for the immense scale battles that occurred (hitting up to 128 LOL).
I just hope you guys make the NOD as badass as ever ;D
Looking awesome, may just have to get UT3 just for this!
i dont know about you i think those guys deserve a donation and i am gona do it.......if they accept anyway.
Bravo guys Bravo!
hey mr Jhonnyxp64
the team does not have a donation pot, but if you like to donate a bit to me, a homble mapper (made islands and shorphunter MP) then bye all means your all free to donate some to me.
b@nk nr 124775594
i love it!
i am so happy you only make slightly adjustments ... i hope they are so small you dont even notice something has changed ...
your work is awesome .. and the best is, this is the first mod of this kind which seems not to die b4 its done!
by the way ... do you have footage of C&C_Canyon, C%C_Mesa, C&C_City ???
i like those maps ... would like to see them UTish and shiny ;)
I wanna see Orcas flying in formation! XD
PLEASE tell me it'll be firstperson too. :/
it is a REMAKE ... so it has 3rd and 1st person mode ... corrct me if i am wrong
There is first person, you could see it in some parts of the trailer.
