Set during the conflict in the original Red Alert 3, Southern Rising will introduce two new factions, the Forth and the SLIM, which are also intended on global domination and freedom.

Post feature Report RSS New Faction Build Styles (with Developer's Saying)

A faction isn't determined only by it's units or technology. Build styles make up even more what we plan.

INTRODUCTION TO BUILD STYLES:

Many of you have seen our early work and many imagine what units will pop up and what fun loving technology you'll use on the field. But what of the build styles?

In Southern Rising, our goal is to provide these new factions not only the fun you deserve, but varied gameplay as well. Here's a basic sketch of what will come as the build styles for the Forth and SLIM, all according to gameplay balance, but also according to weaknesses as well. We intend to give you the best, but we'll demand as well.

So, on with the build styles:

FORTH BUILD STYLE:

The Forth have a construction style similar to the one used by the Empire and the LC faction in Earth 2150. The basis is stated below.

1 - Construction Yards provide no build radius. Instead, they construct Transmitter Relays that you must deploy.

2 - When you have completed construction of a Forth structure, you must designate where it'll land (It's built on the Moon) into the small build radius the deployed Transmitter Relay provides. When it lands, it'll be in Lockdown status until you designate where to deploy it.

3 - Unlike Empire structures, all Forth structures can repack and relocate. This may prove useful for Forth Commanders, when retreating important structures from imminent attack or relocating refineries from depleted ore fields to new ones.

4 - Like the Empire, all deployed Forth structures provide some ground control. Transmitter Relays are used for initial construction and/or expansions.

5 - Mobile Construction Saucers are built only in a Starfield.

6 - Forth Tiers are done by Building a Lunar Wing and upgrading to Offensive Operations and Full-Scale Campaign. Lunar Wings require construction of both a Starfield and Armor Assembly to be made available.

DEVELOPER'S SAYING:

The Forth have access to almost every known advantage in the game, but not the seas, which they haven't prepared themselves for. Their problem with base building and teching is another weakness for them which I intend to explore, as it'll test the player's attention when building his/her base, often making him/her develop some multi-task skills in earlier games.

SLIM BUILD STYLE:

Where the Forth utilize the LC construction style, the SLIM have a UCS construction style, but also like the Soviets.

1 - When construction of a building is ordered and placed, the building is constructed inside a closed construction dome.

2 - Build radius can only be expanded through the construction of Array Towers. Expansions to outside the base need a deployed Provisioner Wagon.

3 - Array Towers can only be built inside the build radius.

4 - Mobile Construction Wagons and Provisioner Wagons are built on a Garage or Shipyard.

5 - Tech is made through researching Vehicle Deployment, Vehicle Pattern Command, Aircraft Deployment, Aircraft Pattern Command, Naval Deployment and Naval Pattern Command in the Construction Yard. Research requires a Propaganda Center.

DEVELOPER'S SAYING:

As the Forth are intended to train the player on some multi-task, the SLIM will test the player's attention concerning power grid. As the SLIM player develops the base, he/she will feel the constant need of having more Power Plants than he/she need for getting relaxed in skirmishes.

It's gonna be a bit OP if you can just move structures. May I suggest adding a delay so it takes maybe 10-20 for a structure to packup?

I wonder how far away from your base can you build a transmitter relay? Or is it a deploying vehicle?

Just have these two and make this a total conversion instead.

Screw the Allies, Soviets and Japanese factions, this would be good enough for a mod because if people want to play with the other factions then they can just play normal RA3.

Trust me, just going with the two factions for now would be good for balance issues and getting everything in place.
