R.E.A.R.M. - "Rearmament Expansion And Redesign Mod" is an unofficial Homeworld 2 expansion and it adds number of new interesting and various units.
This was supposed to be shown only in the dev. group, because there's no use for it yet, but then I started to play with the picture in Photoshop...

Nice!
Now that's how a warship should be painted, great work.
looks agressive! Nice work Pouk
seems to say: PUSH FOWARD!
Nice work.
I'm digging the awesome paintjob.
Nice use of razzle dazzle.
"let the bodies hit the floor!"awesome picture pouk(as aways) ;) my new desktop wallpaper!
Lovely. Very well done.
Looks amazing Pouk. I presume the MBC will have a similar paint job?
Quite possibly. But I won't promise you it will be in the next release, I don't know yet.
Its implementation may very well be postponed to the .3d release so that the .3c release isn't delayed more than necessary.
Don't worry, I know that I'm delaying the release with any other stupid thing I'll add.
But this thing is extra, I created in in the free time between work I had to be doing for RL. Between about several 30 minutes renders while my PC was computing an animation. Not long enough and not enough computing power to concentrate my mind and PC on something else but texturing. I could work on the Research Station textures, yeah, but in those situations I generally don't do even that.
The reason why I said I don't know if I'll make the MBC as well, is on one hand of course the extra time it would take. On the other hand, the time wouldn't be by far as much as with the BC, because my texture is in one piece, I don't have to be looking for an exact pixels where the stripe from previous texture will connect to the texture of another part. MBC texture is flat and in one piece, it won't take much time. I'd just placed it there, erase the parts without the team colors and that's it. So I don't know, it may or may not appear.
why change the colours? i don't wana be rude but whats the point? is it an alternitive paint?
Don't worry it's not a replacement, I wouldn't touch the original. It's just something extra, a bonus, for those who want to have a little more customisation than just the name and subsystems.
thats much better =D
Awesome stuff Pouk, nicely Vaygr Aggressive!
(Danarogon; why NOT?)
Wow! So now we can even give our ships different paint jobs!!!!????? Can't wait!
Yes, now you can give ship a different paint jobs. With help of Mololu you'll unlock the new textures as a reward for your succes in game.
this is a VERY COOL idea - as ever, you have my support :D
Thank you man for your script, you're great.
glad it works :D i was afraid I'd missed something. Keep up the great work as ever!
the ''warpaint'' kinda suits the vaygr and plus the red color...kudos!
Now that I think about it, I'm surprised there aren't more folks who do special team colors. It's gotta be pretty easy to manipulate two layers of a texture file. It probably isn't all that much different from making HW2 badges... one just has to become familiar with cracking your big file open and messing around with different file types.
if the relic designers hadnt textured their ships in such a bloody impossible way it would be a lot simpler but even simple changes can be a real headache as the UV map is a real mess, often re-used in different parts of the ship in odd ways that produce undesirable resutls.
Kudos to Pouk for making such an awesome recolor!
Hell_Diguner:
Sure, it's not that hard and certainly much easier than trying to make a whole new ship -which is a favorite activity of the most HW2 modders. But I think it's because of the fact that this is a texture job, HW2 modders aren't generally very productive when it comes to the textures, it is somehow the least favorite activity amongst them.
Mololu:
Thank you.
And yes, that's a good point, the UV map doesn't make it easier, it is partially based on the trial and error, even when you have the UV map generated by some 3D software.
Didn't think that far but you do have a good point.
I never really got the dislike of texturing things. Of everything related to modeling, I enjoy texturing the most as it's by far the most rewarding part. But guess that's just me.
Lucky you, I'm one of those who don't enjoy it that much. I do it, but it's by far not my favorite activity.
The chevron pattern just says "Vaygr" too; it IS their badge on it's side, pointing the way to the soon-to-be-destroyed enemy.
Would you believe that I didn't even think about it? Right, Vaygr V, not that far off.
I would believe that, I had to think about it.
It made me think of variations of the chevron pattern closer to some of your Vaygr badges, making it not just a cool stripe pattern, but a continuation of their badge pattern, in large scale, all over the ship..
screaming; "We are VAYGR! We have come to destroy you!"
You mean to continue a particullar badge further around the ship?
Yes, that's what I meant. You're pretty close to this already with the chevron pattern matching Vaygr badges anyway, I thought of how some of the other Vaygr badges could look if you made them shipwide.
(My personal favourite is the two-tone black and grey one you made, how would that look instead of the white chevrons?)... etc...
Two tone would be hard... since they aren't specifically white chevrons, they're secondary team color. It could probably be done with different levels of opacity, and thus a black secondary team color would be black, and shades of grey based on opacity.
Hmm, interesting, I had no idea how it was actually done, so just forget anything I suggest that's not do-able.
I really don't see how this is not doable or anything in that regard. You'd have to play around with the values to see how it comes out ingame but I could see this as looking pretty good if implemented correctly.
However I could see it not working with some team colors - notably brighter/lighter colors in which the difference between full and half tone shades is minimal.
HOLY ****, I've missed alot in the 6 months I've been offline! Pouk, all I can say is holy **** man! Amazing work! You were doing amazing work before, and now I am wishing I was able to stick around to see this amazing progress.
But then you are far more surprised if you see that all at once. And thank you.
the research station dosent have texture?
That's right
