A mod that stays true to the original look, but now using bump and roughness textures.
Quake 2 has become a brand new game, but something's missing. We have great source ports that add many graphical improvements, and also new sets of hi-res textures to make Stroggos look brand new. New weapon models to kill the monsters, but no improvements have been done to the monsters themselves... Yet.
I made my last skin in 2007, for Soldier of Fortune II. Made skins for SoF, HL2, Far Cry, Doom3, Quake and more, but then life got in the way and I stopped, but then I found out about Q2XP, and wanted to see if someone had made those ugly models look better. Nope. I found many "hi-res monster skins", but all they did was take the original skins and made them bigger, which achieves absolutely nothing. Then, I found some that had been smeared to remove the jaggies, but look smudgy and blurry. I had to take matters into my own hands. I needed a model viewer, but all I found were useless. Most were created back in the day, when the game was new, and had no support for formats other than pcx for the skins. I had to get Blender, but all I can manage to do was import models and view the diffuse skin, and get the UV maps to know where to put each part properly, so it aligns nicely in the end. Quake 2 models are weird, but I took that as a challenge.
When I had questions, I thought I'd ask KirkBarnes. He's been very helpful, so much respect to him and his source port.
I am having a lot of fun skinning the monsters. I had my laptop stolen, with the soldier, infantry, berserk, gunner, parasite, flyer, hover, bitch, medic, gladiator and float. I am doing those over, and they look better than the ones I lost, so thanks to that thief, may he rot in hell.
I was thinking about releasing the skins one by one, as they appear in the game, but I would rather you see them all at once. It would be weird to see hi-res soldiers and everyone else blurry. I may also skin the old weapons. Maybe.

These are shaders for the monsters for Q2 Evolved. Now they have lights too. And specularity.
I decided to release some weapon skins while the monsters are done. Something to keep you busy. This is MAINLY for Q2XP, but it may also work in Berserk...
Does it include skins for the Icarus?
All the vanilla Q2 enemies have been reskinned AFAIK.

Very nice mod but it makes the guard models a bit too brighter than what they should be. They kind of stand out in the enviroment:
