Long ago, when the word 'Hiigara' rang only as a hollow dream, the kiith of Kharak never imagined they would walk the Path to Victory. But, when they reclaimed their Homeworld and proclaimed themselves 'Hiigaran', they believed they had reached their goal. How wrong they were. 150 years after Hiigaran landfall, conflict rages across the Galaxy... Path to Victory is a multiplayer and skirmish mod for Homeworld 2 that adds new units to both Vaygr and Hiigaran Races as well as enabling the Keepers, Raiders and Kadeshi as playable races.

You have a point :) Uhh, I think there's a space station in star wars that has four prongs... but it doesn't come to mind.

Battlestar? too obvious?

That occured to me around the moment I finished the model. No intention of this looking like that ;)

As a name, I'm not really sure, it sounds a little too obvious as you say. I'd only use that name as a humorous reference...

Yeah, and too 'Galactica' too.

Wait.
You said it right there in the description; Bastion.
The exact definition doesn't quite fit, but as a word that evokes strength, fortitude and heartiness it could work.

I was thinking of calling them bastions at first (reason it's in the description). Maybe that is the name I should use. The reason I didn't use it is because a bastion can't really move. Then again, a shipyard can't in real life eather so, sounds ok, I guess.

Looks like a Vortex.

That's in part what inspired the idea - along with a bunch of other ships. The design is acutally derived from the hiigaran proximity sensor probe.

What's the docking bay for? it looks like it could fit frigates. Is it a build suite? Can this baby support itself like a more heavily armed/armored and slower carrier? would definitely make resource raiding a lot harder to accomplish...
What's the build limit on this thing? Just one?

Build limit is one. Construction right now only supports drones but it will be able to build platforms in future.

Very nice. How about a Hiigaran Mobile Fortress, Hiigaran Dreadnought, or maybe Hiigaran Siege Ship

Dreadnaught I thought of and Fortress too, also Bastion and Firebase... dunno which will be finally used though.

The idea is sound in my opinion, it just doesn't look very hiigaran. I think this replaces the vortex as the strangest unit that has been created with the hiigaran faction in mind.

Have to agree with you on this. I'm not bashing here but this appears to be overpowered and too alien in aesthetic to be Hiigaran. Also, the resemblance to the vortex in my opinion is not good as i absolutely detest that model.

There is nothing forcing you to build it ;)

The design may be slightly abnormal but the existing hiigaran design for me are extremely hard to reproduce. All my attepnts have failed so I chose something different.

Fair comment, Let's see it in action within the mod and perhaps a few fans views (mine included) will change. :)

well technically a firebase is one with arty emplacements so unless its weapons are longe range wouldnt really make sense, but id love to use this as a resource base i hate how resource operations are never defended enough even with modded controllers and i never want to put a decent number of combat ships to protect them. maybe make something half the size with a fair number of guns with resource drop offs and can only build resource collecters? solely for operations of course

I was actually thinking of something simmilar myself. Don't know really, it all depends on if I feel it makes sense but would be something I'll add to my list of possible additions.

I think its too small, like I expected it to be the size of the shipyard but it isn't? I was thinking you could use it as base for your fleet like a staging area on the front lines

It's not really designed to be as large as a shipyard. Size makes it vulnerable, thus it's smaller.

It's an alternative option to the shipyard if you're forced into a defensive stance and need to hold a specific position. Don't think of it as a combat base but rather an extremely large platform.

I also noticed how it could barely stand up to a single Vaygr battlecruiser

Description

(If anyone has a suggestion for a better name, I'm all ears!)

That comment aside, I present the lates addition to the Hiigaran fleet, the Battle Platform. After several unsuccessful attempts to create large combat space stations, the Hiigaran Navy decided to scrap the idea of fixed combat stations, opting for something which more resembles an oversized platform than a space station.

Several cadets at the Hiigaran Navy Engineering School drew up concepts for these new 'Battle Platforms'. One of those designs was eventually selected and is now in widespread use thorughout the hiigaran navy.

These huge floating bastions are generally used to support static hiigaran operations such as planetary defense or deep space stations however they are capable of functioning as offensive capital class ships if they can get going.

Armament: 8x tripple kinetic turrets, 2x dual ion beam turrets, 8x cluster torpedo tubes, point defenses

The Battle Platform's purpose is to draw enemy fire and put out enough firepower to discourage enemy ships from coming anywhere bloody near it. The advantage of the Battle Platform over sipler capital ships (destroyer, cruiser, battlecruiser) is its ability to engage multiple targets with ease due to the large numer of weapons on the chassis.

Now, down to how this thing will work ingame. With the hiigaran faction rework, there will no longer be a expeditionary and defense fleet. Instead you get one unified fleet which can be customized over research and subsystems.

One of these research option will allow the player to choose if he or she wants to specialize on industral production (build speeds higher, repair speed + shipyard unlock) or active armor (ships more heavily armored + Battle Platform).

So it is a tradeoff. Do you want to build your fleet up faster or do you want to go for a slower battle which will probably end up with you steamrolling your opponent with a large capital class fleet.
