This little mod replaces the Tiberium in CnC3 TW with original CnC style Tiberium

Post news Report RSS Wait, this isn't Command and Conquer!

Well, this is awkward. This is also why I'm not working on TA, and where I'm going to go in the future.

Posted by on

Hey guys,

Rather than informing everyone individually of why I'm not working on Tiberian Apocalypse anymore, I've decided to write an official update instead.

So, there are 2-ish, more like 3 reasons why I'm not working on TA. First and foremost, I've been working on this for what, 6 years. In those 6 years, I've started from scratch twice, and never really got anywhere near to what I wanted, part of that is because I never had a design document or written down plan. In short, I've lost interest. As of late, I've become interested again, but I don't have the time to do it now.

Which brings me to reasons nummer zwei and numero tres.

Reason number two it this, my current project: Ardent Seas

It's a naval RTS game, I suppose you could compare it to a mix of Homeworld 2, Red Alert 3, and Earth 2160. Has everything from giant battleships, to aliens, to giant space lasers. And magazine detonations.

Ardent Seas is currently taking up all of my free time, and all my spare money, too.

Now for reason number three, and one I'm actually rather proud of: I own a bar now, which I run with my mother, sister and stepdad.

So, what's the future hold for Tiberian Apocalypse? I can do 3 things with it. I can either

  • Put it to rest permanently, which would kind of suck.
  • Convert it into an indie game and drop every command and conquer-IP element after I'm done with Ardent Seas, which would mean pretty much starting from scratch again, and retexturing everything. Which would also kinda suck, but also give me much more liberty.
  • Continue working on it after I'm done with Ardent Seas and and other projects that may pop up in the meantime. Which doesn't suck as much, but here the risk of losing motivation is the highest.

I'm most partial to options 2 and 3.

Let me know which one you think is better, also I'd much appreciate it if you'd follow my work on Ardent Seas.

Rho out.

Well first of all congrats on being a bar owner! (be careful of all the drunks though)

Second thing, regardless of which option you choose remember the community here will probably support it.

Good to know.
congrats for owning a nice Freibier sign, reminder: Es ist morgen, wo is mein Flens?

Option 2 seems good.

I kinda agree with option 2 as well.

And good luck with the bar.

Option 3 bitte! I'm only interested if its command & conquer.

Also, congrats on the bar! Cool!

It can be CnC, without being called CnC :P

It'll be on Steam and GOG, and probably via direct distribution, too.

I should have said probably GOG, I suppose. I haven't submitted it yet, but I don't have any doubts that they'll accept it.

Never assume, GoG has turned down games before and they dont publically state WHY they have turned them down, recently the dev of Meridian Squad 22 (which finally did see a gog release) complained of no communication from GOG (weather this is true or not is unknown as nether party shared any deeper information) That or take advantage of GOG's Ind Dev program, like I am not trying to say dont go with GOG but be prepared as I have heard mixed stories about them. Despite being a massive supporter of the site and its mission.

I'm going to assume that GOG tells the devs why their game was rejected though. I'm going to submit the game to GOG at the same time as Steam Greenlight, which should be either some time later this month, or just after we've reached Alpha.

Perhaps Option 2, but maybe keep the C&C items as an "Unofficial modpack" or something if it's not too much work.

How about releasing what you have of the mod and make the resources free to use? You own a bar now, thats really cool! and should take priority. Then there's that Indie game you're working on. It will need all you got if its supposed to be a success. You spend all your spare money on it? But you have a bar and family.

You in Spain? That country is (no offense) screwed really hard. Make that bar a success. You can do it this mod shows lots of dedication and willpower.

At the moment, my work and spare time are pretty much split evenly, 6-8 hours at the bar, 8 hours of spare time, rest sleep.

I'm not sure releasing what I have now would do any good, it's not much more than the last release, and very unbalanced.

Yeah, Spain is screwed. I'm genuinely surprised that the Bar is turning a profit.

Grats on the bar, I hope it stays successful. On contrary to #3, I think you might gain motivation to work on TA if you go ahead and finish your current project. The break from it will allow you time to think more on what to do with TA.

What's going on in Spain?

Insane unemployment, I think it's currently at 60% in my age group. And there's no sign of improvement. We also have a rather draconian gag law in place, oh, and we've been going about half a year with no government.

you can continue to develop ardent sea, it's promising and you can put to rest permanently tiberian apocalypse but not until you release a final version with all bugs fixed so it can rest in peace :)

3rd Option would be my vote. I love this mod and the near-TS styles of the buildings (As I hated the TD styled building in C&C3;)

Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck on your prospects.

Honestly, what I'd really love is an actively maintained RTS engine meant for easy modding and mixing of projects that is capable of bringing forth all the mechanics of the various CNC/RA games.

I don't really play games much anymore, I just like to tinker.

I don't want to confirm it yet, because it might not be in the end, but we do want to support modding in Ardent Seas.

Whichever's good for you. I love the C&C universe and setting, but I feel like it's long dead at this point.

I know I'm late on this, but Ardent seas looks like a REALLY fun concept. I would definitely pick it up at a moderate price, and probably for some friends as well. To be honest, I would definitely play more of Ardent Seas than TA in a released or unreleased state. Essentially I encourage you to focus on Ardent Seas above everything else.

Thanks, that's very encouraging!

We're going to go for about 20-25€ I think, at least that's the plan for now. We might even go lower, but higher is unlikely.

That sounds fairly reasonable. You gonna try and shoot for a steam release?

Steam, GoG, and possibly direct release.
