Washington State. The winter wonderland; although a glance into the lives of the inhabitants would suggest that this is a place far from any sense of 'wonder.' During the great war, as a consequence of nuclear action, weather patterns shifted and at times ceased altogether. Shortly before the onset of nuclear winter, several large iceburgs broke from the shores of the north pole. Floating on elevated sea levels, the glaciers traveled south to the coasts of northwestern United States. Shortly, the climate was engulfed in nuclear winter. The sea level plummeted and the iceburgs remained just off the coast, somewhere between the borders of Washington and Canada.

This is a harsh land. The decimated populace lives by blade and by bullet. The people concentrate their efforts at survival and so there is a mass exodus from the countryside, into metropolitan areas where various attempts at social structure and civility are daily tested and broken.

Seattle, WA. Still largely intact even after nuclear winter, Seattle is a ghastly image of the past. Its population is but a fraction of what it was antebellum. A feudal system of government, rife with power struggles among the wealthy and persuasive, keeps the city in a perpetual state of unrest. While some half dozen Urban Lords vie for power in Seattle, the seat of greatest control lies in Richard Morgan, the self-appointed ruler of the northwest. Backed by a loyal citizenship and expansive army, Morgan's rule in Seattle seems unshakable.

To the north, deep in the reborn forests of Canada, Morgan's only real competitor is rapidly gaining strength. Chandrila, known as the Queen of the North, has no intention of allowing Morgan's influence into her boundaries. In an effort to slow Morgan's expansion northward, Chandrila has established a fortified wall that runs the length of an ancient oil pipeline. In addition, she funds the incessant feuds of Seattle's Urban Lords, with money, personnel and misinformation.

It was just such tactics that brought about the formation of the Bremerton Secret Police, a covert division of Seattle's peacekeeping forces. Although the BSP's founder was mysteriously assassinated, Morgan was quick to provide clandestine direction for the task force, but maintained their image as freelance mercenaries. Rather than quelling the Urban Lords' feuds, the BSP's new purpose is to uncover the operatives of Chandrila. And it is in this purpose that we find our hero...

Level Designers: Should have a copy of Dungeon Siege and be familiar with the Siege Editor. Should have some sample screen shots of previous DS work.

Programmers: Should be able to work with Dungeon Siege's SKIRT system, and have at least a year of C++ under their belt.

All potential members should be able to dedicate time to the mod and be able to communicate on MS Messenger. Send samples of their work to Ian Cheshire, nazgul4@earthlink.net

Thanks!

A lot of the team involved with DS:NW are still in school, which makes for stressed schedules. That in mind, NW still has positions open for programmers and coders.

Perhaps this will whet some appetites: Optimistically, gameplay is going to allow for "stealth" strategies, as that seems to be the flavor of the month when it comes to action games now.

Hotkeys will be integral to gameplay, although not required. Due to the number of different actions and reactions a player or NPC may take, and the real-time action of Dungeon Siege, hotkeys would seem to be the most efficient way of getting around.

We are considering several different functions for weapons: different types of gunplay and firing rates, the option to use weapons in a nonlethal fashion, and (perhaps) even a skillbase that will allow for players to set and spring traps.

All of this, however, is pending a great programming and coding team. How about it? Email or message desertf0 if you want to give us a hand.
