Nox Aeterna is a psychological/survival horror mod with emphasis on sound design, realism, atmosphere and environmental storytelling.
After a fairly busy past couple of months, we're finally getting ready to reveal a new major update. We're starting it of with a sneak peek at the new and improved lantern, which now utilizes projected textures to create convincing shadows and light. The lantern is now also it's own separate weapon/item that the player must first equip before using.
Work in progess; the view model is only a place holder and will not appear in the final version of Nox Aeterna.
Outstanding.
Source Engine can already support fairly convincing lighting. o.0
Why do you need to do some kind of work around?
(Hint: Left 4 Dead)
because this seems to be coming out of a point light, meaning there'd be six projected textures for every direction instead of just one from a spotlight.
Before this, the lantern used simple dlight to illuminate the surrounding area, which produced no shadows and more often than not some dodgy lighting near props. Using projected textures fixes all of these problems.
I see...
I guess I was wrong, then.
Can a one handed weapon be used with the lantern?
Also, I'm glad that you are still working on this :)
