Here are some early screens of 'labwork', the 3rd map in [color:blue]NovaCor: The Fringe.[/color] Be aware that the gun in the screens is NOT MINE. I am tracking down the original creator to see if I can get permission to use it in the Mod.
You'll see some bodies on the floor, those are infected crewman. They will have different skins in the future, but for now, this will do. The lighting and detailing is not yet finished, and these screens were taken after compiling on fast with no GDR or Cubemaps in yet. These are purely for feedback and suggestions, not to show the beauty of the map just yet :)
HK 416 ftw.
The sights are completely messed up ! you can't even aim with HK416 !
Front sights - HK416 Sights
Scope - EOTech (I do believe)
Back sights - Sg Sig552 Sights
:|
I don't think that is an EOTech, I believe its an ACOG Scope.
Good point about the iron sightes though.
Ain't ACOG, aint EOtech. Looks like an Aimpoint red dot sight.
Those are standard HK sights for the 416. You actually CAN aim with both iron sights and an optic at the same time.
I like the artistic direction
very good
:P
Blood decals is strange and not realist :s
Its a bit clean and lighting is not very well..
labs can be clean, mate.
overall the screens do look good, but i have to agree with Avenger2150, that the scope is placed in front of the normal aming thing and this is not realistic (what is not that importent to me), but it also does look strange and not usable. please change this otherwise many people will comment about it in a bad way, some may even trash this mod because of it.
the blood does look ok, but it does look a bit faded.
i like the overall white of the textures, because its a lab. but some of them do look drawn instead of like a photo, what gives them a bit of a HL1 image. maybe you can add bumpmapping to them or look for another texture.
other then that, looking great and will track for sure!!!

Ill just address everyone in one post for simplicity:
Concerning the gun: Its not mine, I didnt make it, so its not 'in' the Mod yet. Given the comments I may find a replacement - but Im not going for ultra-realism anyway.
Blood and Burn Decals: Yes, I know they need work. I should have addressed that in the news post; I did address the issue on the main page though. They will be completely reworked in the future.
Lab: Well, its a Lab. Its going to be mostly clean, with the evidence of something horrible having happened there. (Blood stains, smears, and burn marks) For the most part there wont be a lot of clutter, but the corridors definitely wont be empty either.
As for the 'look', it is meant to be kinda 'old school'. (this Mod used to be called "Old Skool" until I completely reworked it) I dont want photorealism at all - it meant to be something between cel-shaded and hand-drawn. Even the NPCs in the future will have a more 'cartoony' look to them.
lighting/bumpmapping: The lighting isnt done (only texture lighting is present atm), no cubemaps are in and I havent added the bumpmaps yet - but rest assured, they will be there in the end. As stated in the article, this is compiled on 'Fast' so its not even close to the end product.
Thanks for all your comments!
I honestly dont know, what some people have against cartoonish games.
(Did crysis 1/2 **** up your minds already?)
Needs better blood, HL2 normal one is perfect, don't change it, needs things to be darker (put shadows). Anyway, i'm tracking. Continue this work.
Use higher resolution textures man!
All textures are 512x512, just as in HL2, with a few exceptions. Door textures are 512x256, decals are 1024x1024 (but scaled in their .vmt files) and exterior (nature) textures are either 1024x1024 or 2048x2048.
One of the goals of this Mod is to make it availible to as wide of an audience as possible - which includes people with low-end PCs. If you can run HL2, you can DEFINITELY run this :)
With the whole 'animated' theme, it would be pointless to scale the textures up, and all it would do is drag down performance.
Perhaps in the next Mod I will go for a more photorealistic look :) This Mod is about performance, a not-so-serious look, and an engaging, original story-driven campaign.
