This is the test version of the Female Infected. Opinions welcome! She doesnt run or leap (unless scripted to do so) But she does all of the Zombie style attacks.

Ive had a lot of comments as far as the skins on the Infected go, and Planet Phillip's Phillip thought there was too much red also. What do you think? I added so much because they have been slaying all of the uninfected crew, so I figured a bloody mess was in order.

Too much or just right?

I think there's a little too much blood, especially when they're in the sterile enironment of the spaceship. The two styles might contrast a heavily D:

I totally agree. Unless you got blood decals EVERYWHERE, it seems like a dev just put them in a random place.

Oh wait.

I agree, although I don't mind too much blood. It's just that it feels a little off, they are covered in blood while the interior is clean.

After reading Mr Walrus' comment, it was like a light bulb got turned on. Makes total sense....Id have to smear the walls and floors in blood, which would probably be done with textures instead of hundreds of decals.

But Im not going that route. I will reskin them again and just add some touches of blood here and there. It might make more sense if I had certain areas with a mauled body and gore everywhere, but I dont. Even then, only the models in the immediate area would work.

I didnt expect such a rapid response from so many people :) It is greatly appreciated!

I wont promise it, but I will give it serious thought :P It would be more likely to see a few mutilated crewman in exceptionally bloody areas as opposed to on the Infected models. For instance, right before you get swarmed with a mob of infected...I WAS planning some L4D Horde-style sequences, so that might be the perfect way to let the player know whats coming :)

I think you need to localise the blood spatters to certain areas of the body, like hands and face, chest. To have that much blood on their backs doesn't make much sense. Unless they've been rolling around on corpses. :)

Looks fine to me. Decreasing some of the blood wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it would be any worse just leaving it either. I think all it needs is the right sounds and you'd probably achieve appropriate terror levels with either amount of blood spatter.

It looks like some parts are coat, some blood, and some flesh parts sticking out yet smooth with the coat. go with more of a blood stain, but not too much. Blood splatter in a realistic way would only do this if they where crawling inside the bodies.

It would be interesting if certain areas where the zombies come from were also blood splattered and 'infected' matching the skins. However that's been done a lot lately and is probably starting to become a cliche.

Exactly.

The Infected are more of a secondary threat when it comes to this Mod, similar to the Zombies in HL2 as opposed to the Combine, which were the real threat. This is by no means a zombie shooter. I would describe it as very closely resembling the gamplay style of HL2, just set in a completely different time and place.

Well, the verdict is in. I will reskin the Infected to be less bloody and yet still obviously messed up. Something in between the movie "The Crazies" and "28 Days Later". In space.

There will also be some big changes coming up in a news update to be posted next week sometime. Some of the minor changes include update textures, but there are much bigger changes I wont spoil just yet.

I will say, however, that it will help the release date for Part 1 of this story come along much earlier than it was looking like the last few months. In the very first promo trailer, I said Q1 2012. After that, I decided to go bigger and have much more content, up to 8 hours of gameplay. With the changes, this Trilogy will be more in an episodic style release, though I wouldnt quite call it episodic. It will, however, be sometime in early 2012 that we see a playable release. Q1 or Q2.

All the new details will be in the news post, and possibly a trailer showing more of whats to come.
