This mod aims to recreate the atmosphere of the period of the War of the Grand Alliance, also known as the Nine Years War. The mod will reflect the transition from matchlock to flintlock and from pike to bayonet. There will be a new faction (the Cossack Hetmanate and the Jacobites). The mod will incorporate some units of the Hetmanate TW mod with some changes to reflect the late 17th century.
The introduction of the tricorne in the French army seems to have begun in the 1690s. Engravings from 1695 and 1696 show some pikemen of the Gardes Francaises wearing tricornes, and still wearing cuirasses. The tricorne supposedly spread in the French Army from the habit of Spanish soldiers in Flanders of turning up their hats into this shape. Some sources indicate this was because of the wet weather in Flanders, so that the rain would not collect in the hat. Others say it was so it would be easier for the men to rest the musket on their shoulders without the hat getting in the way.
