The 'Middle Earth Roleplaying Project' aims to recreate J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth in the Creation engine of 'Skyrim'. The player will be plunged into Middle Earth near the end of the Third Age, not long before the War of the Ring breaks out.

The Horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the Deep, one last time!
YES!
Fell deeds awake...
Now for wrath, now for ruin, and a red dawn! Forth, Eorlingas!
Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east
A new power is rising. Its victory is at hand. This night the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan. March to Helm's Deep. Leave none alive. To war!
Holy mother of God, I can really now imagine standing on top of those walls with my fellow archers and murdering some uruk-hai. Are you guys going to try and implement the ladders from the films, and I was wondering if you are going to somehow make the wall blow up when the uruk-hai torchbearers get to it.
IF they get to it. Not on my watch ;)
as a scripted event I can't se why not, maybe a little like how the top opens to sovenguard in the skyrim main quests when the dragon mask prick guy summons it open is kinda rock flying apart nd epikness of 1000 sorts
if they follow the book,no wall will explode..in the book the wall was already breached, and somewhere outside the forteress were some barricades, bastions or something like this were some archers went to release arrows at the enemy army, and after they retreated in the forteress and reported to Theoden,i think, but im not 100% sure of this:D
No the wall explodes in my copy.
They do talk about some fire from isengard, if I remember correctly...
yeah.well,i read the book 1 year ago,i didnt remembered corectlly.now i took the book and searched for it,finnaly found it.my mistake:D the passage is short, like 5 lines, and aragorn says something after
yeah, most of the battles in the books were less climactic than in the movies.
i wonder why :/
Cuz they are books.
Note that the surroundings will very heavily change.
Yeah i was wondering the amount of snow and such :p
Can't wait to see the rest of the fortress fleshed out, including the interiors! (=
Damn... nice work :)
Must control... the epicness... can't... "AAAARHH, I can't F'''''' WAIIIT!!!" :P
That is just awesome... I can't wait to fight the army of Saruman there.
Can't wait to see how epic the battle is!
I hope the glittering caves are going to be included at the back of the deep (thats probably a mod unto itself).
I do like that the deep is somewhat more extensive than the one in the movie. The film one wasn't really a deeping vale with a stream at all, which gave the impression they didn't read the book properly or know what it was. This looks somewhat more like it should. Maybe aught to open out a bit more behind and lead off to the left towards the caves. Gives a bit more space for a mountain stream and its tributries and all the rest to explore.
Don't forget the deeping road.
When designing this part of the heightmap I paid a lot of attention to the drawings in the Atlas of Middle Earth. It is still significantly different, simply because of the scale difference between the heightmap and our points of interest. The model of Helms Deep is probably somewhere around a scale of 1:3, while the heightmap is 1:90 compared to the "real" deal. Because of that the heightmap around points of interests need to be adjusted, significantly.
Oh and yes, the Glittering Caves will be in the back.
Yeah I like your improvements, I realise there are limitations to what can be done.
It definitely would be out of shot here but I wonder if you plan on including Helm's Dike. I believe it to be a part natural dike (geological) that was augmented by the Gondorians and the Rohirrim. Was irregular in hight up to 20 feet and a cliff to one side spanning the Deeping Coomb.
I like your work, even if I'm not always a fan of the movies. Great work.
Yes, Helms Dike is included (it is just a little under the bottom line of this screenshot), but due to the scale difference between points of interest and the heightmap it's not much bigger in width than the Deeping Wall. In the lore Helms Dike is faaar wider, which is the reason why the outnumbered Rohirrim didn't man it when Isengard attacked.
Helm's Dike is already in. It is just outside the image here ;)
I wonder what it'd be like if the graphics were eventually enhanced.. Even though it's just overwhelming in epicness as it is. I'm ready to put my warrior outfit on and SO READY TO SPEAR SOME URUKS IN THE FACE.
The moment I noticed this mod I had to make myself an account JUST to stay tuned with this mod,I FEEL HONORABLE TO HAVE MADE MY FIRST COMMENT HERE. I'll be an active follower. CAN'T EFF'N WAIT :D
Yeah I made an account just for this mod too! I also just couldn't wait, but... as you can see, I'm still waiting and so are you. :P
this model is just so bursting with quality, excellent work.
ahh and.. you said it's not finished.
so no offence, just my 2 cents:
maybe the mountains are a little bit to glaring white and the transition between grassland and mountain stone a bit too harsh? and a bit gravel and stone round the fortress.
but nevertheless awesome in all aspects!
Yep, the mountains will see very significant changes.
Plus, this is the world map, so the mountains are even whiter here ;). The final mountains will look much better.
Forth Eorlingas!
I hit view original...
My life will never be the same :)
Really nice, but are there really such significant amounts of snow in Rohan? Great work anyway!
It's really good but I thought it was more surrounded by rocky terrain rather than grass, and the mountains on the side should be steeper
I honestly can not wait to see the first reveal of the entire mod, I have been eagerly waiting like everyone else , but alas I cannae see what else needs to be said about this pic, looking amazing guys.
I am so excited for this mod and hopefully we will get to explore helms deep in the first release of the mod :)
You will get to explore not only Helm's Deep but all of Rohan and experience the events leading up to the War of the Ring in Rohan. It will be epic, trust me ;)
awsome and so looking forward to this..
My computer shall die a glorious death once this is released.
Oh, One more question, The textures will be more detailed in the official product, Right? I mean, Not the difference in the texture, but in the detail level specifically. This could be because it's a longshot angle though.
Also, Bonus question, Will there be updates on the graphics level throughout the years? even after the game is ultimately released?, Like HD texture packs and whatnot?
The textures seen on the ground here are world map textures, not the actual textures. The fortress textures are quite high res, I assure you ;).
As for graphical updates, all our textures are going to be HD, around the quality of Quarl's Texture Pack for Oblivion and Vurt's Skyrim Overhaul for Skyrim. Also, we have permission to use Vurt's resources as a part of MERP itself. On top of that, the way MERP is installed using Mod Organizer makes it so that any HD texture pack applied to vanilla Skyrim will also be applied to vanilla Skyrim textures in MERP. So graphical updates will mostly take care of themselves ;)
supah!
looks like you are making good progress.
OMG WOWOWOW NICE!
Legolas 2 already!!
I'm on 17!
EH?! I'll not have some pointy ear out-scoring me!
