The Maelstrom Mod introduces four new races to the Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Universe. They are independent of the original races and have unique strengths and weaknesses. Maelstrom is available for Rebellion, Diplomacy, Entrenchment and Original Sins.

Squadrons of strike craft defend nearby structures and the planet from hostile forces.
Hanger defense for who?, looks like a TEC structure

does it upgrade with flak turrets of some sort?
Not at this stage, I'll consider the idea though.
I wouldnt give it flak turrets, give it like point defense lasers so it is different from the rest
i think u should use the anti fighter weapons characteristic to each speicies if thats the case with a defense on the strike stations...like vasari would have the light phase missles there fighters and anti fighter frigates have while TEC would have there auto cannons and advent there plasma cannons
