The L.U.R.K. team wants to provide the best possible experience from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, we don't plan to skew the scope of this game, because I, like many others, fell in love with the game because of the story, the realistic gameplay, and the atmosphere. I plan to preserve and improve on that concept to the best of my abilities, and our team has vowed to do so as well. Which is why we took it upon ourselves to provide that experience. We want to fulfill a niche that's otherwise unfulfilled in the modding community. We want to bring as many features to Stalker without damaging or changing the original theme of the game. While improving upon that concept with features that were dropped off the development cycle from GSC, such as stealth AI, and a strong foundation for balance, as well as dynamic A-Life, and an unprecedented visual presentation that no other Stalker Overhaul can touch.

Scopes - the PSO-1 Scope, works on afew rifles, but not on my Nagant, and my friend claims it doesn't work on his SVD/Dragunov. I've been wondering, is this just me and him, are we doing something wrong, or is this simply a bug/glitch?

(*Did a quick Search for Scope;Scopes;PSO and nothing came up - sorry if this is a repeat thread)

PSO-1 shouldn't work with the nagant, the actual scoped nagant is returning in version 1.1. As for the SVD, it should work fine. Make sure you have the weapon equipped when trying to attach the scope.

Alright, thanks!

Also another quick question (still looking this one up, so I might've missed it someplace) My friend is running it on STEAM; and I'm using a CD Copy. When he retrieves the Documents from the Lab; and attempts to return to the barman, his game crashes. Now I know its not LURK or Stalker, considering I'm slightly past that part myself right now, any ideas?

Find his xray_[username].log file and post the part near the end, after [fatal error]. It's found in \users\public\...\STALKER-SHOC\logs folder (vista/7). If it isn't there (something to do with steam) just determine his username on the computer and search for the file. e.g. xray_administrator.log

Thanks Marbai, again.

We found it pretty quickly, and this is what came up.

FATAL ERROR

[error]Expression : error handler is invoked!
[error]Function : handler_base
[error]File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xrCore\xrDebugNew.cpp
[error]Line : 749
[error]Description : std: out of memory

Now looking it over (above what I just posted there) there are is almost a solid wall of

! Invalid ogg-comment version, file: c:\games\steam\steamapps\common\stalker shadow of chernobyl\gamedata\sounds\

calls, each one varying in location after the \sounds directory, be it \weapons or \detectors , etc

Would a clean overlay/install of the mod fix this? If so, would that ruin his character?

Nah I have a close problem, just update your codecs or your driver or both. The combined community codec pack has the codecs. But all of the mods .ogg files crackle for me.but before you do that make sure your running stalker 1.0005 for the mod that might be it.Also I just had an idea I need to test, to see if the sound crackles in the US version I have WW currently installed for a few reasons and have both versions but want to know if the sound crackles in the US version of the game.

Does the steam version automatically update to v1.0006? I don't know if there are significant changes that could effect the mod with that version, since the mod requests v1.0005.

The "[error]Description : std: out of memory" is pretty cryptic. I doubt it could really mean you don't have enough RAM, hahah.

I believe it did, or was atleast, upgraded to 1.0006, I know for a fact before my LURK install I was running 1.0005, so I can talk to him tomorrow and see what he says.

Yeah I saw that, he's running a prebuilt system that I don't have the specs on, I'm running lurk with 4GBs of RAM myself, I doubt he has anything less then 2GBs lol.

Edit:

He double checked, and its still running at 1.0005, could this be a problem with steam itself then, or perhaps his install of LURK?

After reading this its just many of the games crashes, try to have him run around for an entire gameday away from the bar and check back after that. It has fixed many crashes for me.

Hahah, I wouldn't put it past the xray engine/stalker for that matter. If you can't kludge your way past it, you could always get him to do a re-install of the game and try to check if it's v1.0005 and the mod is being copied over properly, all those little annoyances.

I have 2 questions I dont want to open another thread for.. will the upgrade system for the weapons include scopes and nadelaunchers so that you can never detach those again?
and how far does the level of customization reach? will I be able to tune my AK to a G36-equivalent statswise?

The customization is along the same lines as Clear Skys and CoPs.

I had a similar error, except it read

[error][ 1450] : Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

I ended up modifying the registry to give programs unlimited memory usage, or something like that. I don't know a whole lot of details about how Windows handles memory for individual programs. I also don't know if it will help your problem, but if you want to try the key is in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" and it's called "PagePoolSize". Set it to ffffffff and restart the computer. Your error seems to be in a slightly different format, so I'm not sure if it's the same problem, but this was the only way I could get the game to run without crashing. The .ogg error is very common and most likely (I'll put "most likely" here because I don't want to stick my foot in my mouth) unrelated to the crash.
