The goal of Half-Life 2 : MMod is to enhance and expand gunplay, combat mechanics and the immersion factor by giving the Player more options and combat opportunities as well as refine how the Player handles his arsenal. Im not sure how the "replace" mechanic works, is it like in modern shooters where you can drop the gun you're holding for the one on the ground whenever you want or is it a permanent upgrade once you get it?
Exactly like that, yeah. No permanent upgrades or replacements, every weapon in hl2 plays its role.
When you find weapon replacement you'd have to adjust to its mechanics and traits, but essentially it's going to do the same role as original weapon. Basically HL2MMod v2 will feature even more of "player's choice" thing.
So v2 will have the ability of optionally dropping weapons? Will usable weapons are picked up when walking over it, or will they be chosen when pressing and holding the "Use" button?

You don't have to pick it up if you prefer the crossbow.

If you meant that you want both the Crossbow and OSR , then no , for balancing and HUD reasons , you can only choose one.
you're adding the weapons. that's great. can't wait to use this baby. are you gonna add the auto gun or ion rifle as a possible usable weapon? just tweak the damage to do less damage or something.

Suggestion - have the Sniper Rifle fly out from the sniper's nest when you kill them with explosives. Supplies some ammo and also provides the first gun drop at the end of Ravenholm.
are you gonna add a blue laser to the weapon? like how some OSR have it in Garry's Mod. and like the snipers emit one.
