I drew the schematic and Liam made the model. He's been working on Halo models for quite some time now, so some of the objects, such as the elevator, are among his previous works.

It's one of the megacities/manufacturing complexes on Reach.

Tis' just my brainchild, however I do plan on making more canonical ones such as Elysium if this one turns out well in game.

Hmm, wait, will we be able to do real scale surface bombardments in this mod - no probably not. I think that city and outpost markers would however show up on a planet for interaction.

Well, remember the last mission in HW2? I hope there will be something like that which the player can do.

Yes, it's a very doable thing. Unlike the final mission of HW2, you will be able to physically fly down to the surface of the planet, over the city (or any other structure), and shoot plasma and energy projectors all over the place.

I'm aware that Terragen 2 can easily come up with a planet in superb detail - you're going to need a massive amount of RAM however.

Isn't Terragen only doing parts of surfaces, or does it also do whole planets?

Terragen 1 did parts of a surface... Terragen 2 does it all.

oh, cool. gotta get it then.

EDIT: Note that Terragen-created environments are not suited for video games. It would lag like hell ^^

We may consider it, however we would only need a relatively small area of the planet with realistic terrain. If it's possible to adjust the resolution of the model, then it would definitely be a valuable tool for generating these terrain sections.

It doesn't need to be shown in super detail for it to look good in HW2.

There is one however called Infinity 'the quest for Earth' that uses T2 for planets and environments - I saw the vid, absolutely stunning. If you are using T2 for games then I would use 3000 RAM, I have one at the moment that is capable of that power - most of the RAM got fried in a surge so it's currently being repaired. You can also use T2 for full on planets for XBox 360 games seeing that the Xbox has some massive horse power in the speed and graphics.

Horsepower yes, graphics no

the 360 actually has a superior GPU to the PS3 and anything computers had until DX10 came around.

The buildings are too blocky. Both Reach and ODST had smooth, rounded edge buildings with sharp accents on the balconies.

you are also aware those are games that were able to dedicate large amounts of power to making those look good....homeworld 2 can't dedicate that much

88, keep in mind that this model is still very much a WIP, the modeler that made this city knows the design memes of the UNSC in great detail.

No, this is custom city designed by me, and modeled by Liam Keating.

We're saving the more canonical locales like New Alexandria and Elysium for when we have the process of making these terrestrial constructs down pat.

Details like that can be achieved by textures, no need to add to the poly count with extra geometry.
