SMAC stations are already ingame as the UNSC's analogue for a defensive turret. And I'm not sure that salvaging ships for money is possible due to hardcoding. The closest they could come to that is having neutral "derelict" vessels that can be captured by players.
Actually, a salvage function like this is in vannila soase on the Vasari starbase. I doubt we will put in a function like this but it is possible.
SMACs and everything else we have as a permanent model will be getting custom debris, yes.

The damage rendering on the UNSC ships is excellent, no dissent from me there. I'm not so sure about what you've done for the Covvie ships on the other hand. They look like they've been plasma burned as well, rather than cored by MAC rounds, blasted apart by massive volleys of Archer missiles, or almost vaporized by point-blank Shiva detonations.
