It's not really at the front there is it.

As high-ranking admirals usually are aboard the Valiant-class, it's likely much closer to the front than any modern day admiral would ever be.

Its metaphorical; You're not going to throw your best ship to the wolves. The Valiant is leading he charge in the sense that its the UNSC flagship and is engaging the Covenant on all major fronts. It doesn't have to be in the very front of the fleet composition in order to be leading a charge. Even the UNSC Infinity was escorted and at the time of Halo 4, was the most advanced star ship in the known galaxy.

Didn't the UNSC Infinity jump through a covenant super-carrier and then deploy frigates to support?

Wasn't a super carrier, I saw a discussion b4 on here, it was a regular frigate but was zoomed in.

I hated the way 343 made the covenant ships, they where like 1/10 the size of the FUD which was weird...

well it isn't the main Covenant fleet either. Jul M'Dama is the leader of a small fanatic sect of the covenant. He probably broke off when he first found the shield world. It would make sense that he wouldnt have access to the entirety of the covenenant navy.

They weren't 1/10 the size, it was the aspect ratio. Obviously if you're standing on the surface of a ship and another one in the distance flies up, it's of course going to look farther away.

Though iirc, the ships with green glows in the campaign were a frigate in the same way the supercarrier in Reach was a assault carrier.

This is correct, Zero. Very lazy of 343.

No, it rammed a CCS battlecruiser

there is an entire argument about that on the forums..

I heard the same, something about the smaller ships being CRS-class light Cruisers and the "big" one being a CCS-class Batlecruiser. If this is true I wish 343 would add a bit more design variation to the Covenant ships instead of the CCS design for all cruiser classes and the "hooked bow" carrier for all carrier designs.

It's just few ships behind the cannon fodder, so it's really close to the real fight!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Preston Cole actually lead the charge with the Everest?

As in he was the lead ship for the charge?

Stop being nit-picky, if you want a capital ship at the very front of your fleet then by all means do it, for now enjoy the fact that A. you have a beauty of a pic, and B. you have a new ship to use....

I'm hardly being nit-picky. I was referring to its position in the book. As a Sins player, of course you wouldn't throw it in front.

Just to clarify: I was opening a conversation about Halo: Evolutions, not necessarily the picture :)

I enjoyed the stories I read from Evolutions, but admittedly I did mainly skip through to Cole's story.

It would last only one battle if we did that in Sins. The bigger the ship, the farther back it goes.

I personally really like the area where the turrets are, it looks like the battle rifle rail.

Which one do you guys think is better: the Valiant-class Super Heavy Cruiser or the Orion-class Battleship/Battle Cruiser?

What kind of a question is that?
They're two completely different roles. Their strengths lie in different areas.

I'm sorry if the question was downright stupid, but think of it as me saying "which one do you like more?"

The Orion is a damage dealing ship and is probably stronger than any other individual ship, but a fleet of 30 frigates with an Orion vs a fleet of 30 frigates with a Valiant the Valiant will win. It enhances a fleet.

I think I could manage to kill the Orion before I lost my ship, but I'd be badly hurt.

Er Mer Gerd. You guys are doing great so far. I might even play the human only beta (forgot what you guys called it) for entrenchment when you release, even though I really want to play the covenant...

Speaking of, you guys are making amazing progress in this... how many modellers/texture artists do you have?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Right now 1 modeler (Didact), 1 texture artist (Zero), and 1 who does both (Annihilater102).

Description

With the Valiant-class now leading the charge in campaigns everywhere, it's easy to have a sliver of hope again. It's variety of fleet buffing abilities and moderately thick armor make it the ideal candidate for a Flagship role on the front-lines.
