The Flood's purpose is to consume with reckless abandon and biomass trapped on the surface of a planet is of no use to the Gravemind. When the Flood consume all sentient life on a planet devoid of starships...it takes on a new terrible form.
Using ancient knowledge given to it by the Precursors to fulfill their awful mission, Flood biomass collects into a mountain-sized object and then lifts off the planet's surface via non-newtonian methods of propulsion known only to their extinct masters. These hulking amalgamations of putrid flesh and chitin roam the galaxy looking for more intelligent life to consume and learn from.

think the things that morphed in Halo 3... the ones that shot spines at us and were a pain in the *** to kill...
So when one or more of these show up at one of my planets, the use of overwhelming firepower beyond reason is going to be used. Overkill? I call it making damn sure....

So im curious. When you guys have gotten the 3 main factions made. Do you guys plan to have an addon that allows you to play the flood so you can muck about?

Well the flood is basicly a, everything raping neutral-hostile badass ************ - he gives a **** bout you, your people or your enemy, my friend!
I am quiet aware of that.
Everything is food.
And with there ability to infest and take over ships with just fighters you could rush an enemy and win by taking over everything he one's. It would be too one sided unless you made it where they could only get that ability mid or late game.

and don't forget that they can take over your SMAC's even if they are under the cooldown time after they have completed construction, and after that they can fire immediately on the other stations... or ships...
and when you lose a hangar defense to the flood now they have banshees giving them cover fire as well as the several spores they generate
this looks very good, reminds me a bit of the pure forms in halo 3
