Mother nature, Earth Mother, Gaia, Parvati, Terra Mater, etc; female fertility, the birth of life, the mother of all things living. It's not just English, it's almost everything single major language, and culture, that refers to Earth in the female/motherly form, because it accents the beauty, and fervor of creativity, and destruction, on Earth. Not to mention that Earths true Latin name is actually Terra, which has a feminine base, and root, as well as the Moon, Luna, too has a feminine root.
Halo is a western vision of all humanity future, is it not?
But... did western culture ever conquered something except their own so called 'western world'? -No, it didn't. And looks like this will never happen. Not sure if any culture could ever prevail. And I'm completely don't believe that you will eat russian okroshka (Love it. It's good to be russian - we have many delicious traditional food) instead of your own traditional food.
As I remember, western culture was overthrown or adapted and exploited everywhere it was faced. But has Japan lost it's originality after Meiji Restoration? -No. Just like all countries with their own long history and culture, not being colonial land.
Another, completely different thing is a mass culture, which is already conquered half of the world.
For those of you who recognize what inspired this, the image is 1080p and perfect for a wallpaper.
I don't quite know if there is another reference, but I do remember seeing this on the Pillar of Autumn's bridge bulletin board in Halo 1
That's the spot!
was in ODST as well as graffiti
Thanks for the wallpaper!
Hm, interesting.
Why for 'her'? I mean, why people in English refer to Earth as female. I know about naval tradition, but nothing about planets :/

Thank you.
Yes, in Greek myphology Gaia - is "she". But in Egipt myphology god of surface( =) ) was Geb - "he". So...
Whereas in Norse mythology, Earth is just a dead Ice Giant body, various part for different functions
Egyptian culture didn't conquer the western world.
(buried)
