Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.
Based off the structures around Anchor 9.
Due to HW2's "poofing" method of building (Ships instantly appear once built) there'll be some modifications in order to help mask this.
Larger yards will be based off this design, but obviously bigger and designed for larger ships.
The basic layout of the UNSC base will resemble Anchor 9 - An anchor 9-style station will be your "starting" station, able to construct fighters, durable and armed enough to hold it's own early on, and will be able to construct these yards, which will have a one-shot movement for you to position them as you please.
You know, you can have the "one shot movement" yards set up so they appear where you would want them, you wouldn't have to position them.
You don't need to put a subsystem hardpoint on the actual model ;)
I'm unsure what you mean, we essentially just planned for them to act like probes do now - they're constructed, you tell them where to move, and upon reaching the destination they "deploy" - for this particular yard i imagined when constructed it would have the two surfaces flat against each other, but once deployed it would "fold out" to make the room inbetween for ship construction
What I mean is to have each of the different yards as subsystems, you can place their hardpoints wherever, and you can have exit paths from where the subsystem will be at. Having the subsystem as a requirement for the ships will negate the risk of the ships poofing into existence so visibly.
That will also mean you only build from the one station, it would centralise things. If you have your concept done up in the release you're planning later this year i'll have a play with it and show you what I mean if you like.
Ah, yeah i was thinking something along these lines, but the subsystem also poofs into existance, which still leaves us with a problem. It does however nicely tie in with the clustered shipyard idea - I guess we'll wait to see with how it turns out when you play around with it and show us to see which set up we prefer.
I look forward to making an attractive HOD for you :)
That looks fantastic. You really captured all the detail from Reach.
Haha, yeah but it means it's got an insane polycount at the moment, i'm gonna try to simplify the design while i modify it to be a bit more "poof" friendly.
I love it, maybe you should release a high polly and low polly version of the mod. as it is truly sexylicious
I'm unsure about a high and low poly version of the mod, but there'll be full LODs made so you'll get to see some nice stuff if your PC can handle it - I think with current expectations for an average PC, there'll only be a small minority of people who have to run on low graphic details.
We'll also be doing a few tests during the beta to see what on average your PCs can handle so we can set a bar with just how far we can go.
this is a pice of work i wish i was this good and are you going to update the supercarrier
and off the topic of ships whear can i get a copy of hw2 i cant find eny in gamestop
I'm unsure anymore, a few years ago when we started it was a reasonable expectation to find a few copies in some sort of cheap sale-collection at game stores trying to get rid of old stock, and i think there was a re-print (or what ever the term for DVDs is) a few years ago by a company that reprinted old PC games, but i expect now they're fairly rare.
You might be able to order it offline somewhere, ebay/amazon etc, possibly even a digital download if steam has it?
Oh and, yeah, all the ships will be updated.
I'm aiming at taking my time and making each ship look as good as i possibly can this time, as theres no preasure to just constantly release new art with the current beta plans.
Just look in ebay amazon or use google. I buyed my Homeworld 2 just one year ago.
wow that looks sweet. good job man
Beautiful :)
can't wait, looking awesome. Gonna be playing halo games alot untill this comes out :D
Its looking very good Velo! Very nice job indeed.
Nice to see that you are being productive.
I'm assuming the corvette is next?
Thats so cool! I wish i can make something like that. the best i can do is a brick that "sort-of" looks like a space ship :D
Just curious, what program do you use to make your models?
3ds max 2010, though i preferred earlier versions.
Very nice model. Care to elaborate on "Armed well enough to hold it's own"? I'm just curious.
It'll possess anti-fighter weaponry like anchor 9 displayed, as well as archer missile pods dotted around the station. The yards will also have some archers, as they appear to have them in Reach.
Basically, it'll be able to fend off small assaults and early game rushes, and contribute to defense, but not so much as to make much difference later in the game.
Cool, I was afraid it would be a bit under armed like most of the production capitals in HW2. (Sorry, I haven't had a chance to play Reach yet, so I didn't know.)
I'll do a quick write up on my blog about what we aim to do gameplay wise, we're aiming for something quite different to vanilla to fit Halo a bit more.
