GMDX is an award-winning large-scale modification for the 2000 PC classic Deus Ex. GMDX addresses the many flaws of the game, polishes it to a very high standard, and adds new layers of depth that one would have hoped to see in a sequel. GMDX is executed with the strict parameter of staying true to the original design principles that define Deus Ex, and seeks to improve all aspects of design excluding the plot and soundtrack. The cumulative result thus far is said to be, and aims to be the "definitive Deus Ex experience".
Faithfully Updated Versalife Skybox
Now that's a lot better. The yellow lighting really fits the yellowish background, making the transition more fluid and I like how the red sign blends in with the skybox signs. :)
yap, thats somewhat better and I am really glad you have listened that fast :-)
to me though, it still feels too dull... would it be possible to actually make some of the windows in the background bright, as if someone is in there?
To me, the entire scene just looks abandoned.
A few of them are bright, but I agree it needs a few more.
It's the same all throughout Deus Ex. Buildings with no lights on everywhere. Adds to the oppressive atmosphere. :)
I think this scene can be improved and should perhaps be more colorful and alive, but it would be a drastic change. Currently it's a significant improvement without hardly changing the original design intention.
The obvious question here is if all the windows were dark because of texture limitations or if they actually wanted it that way. However, I respect your answer and agree that is is the "safe" choice, which is what GMDX is about :-)
Well I don't know about that. There's plenty brave, progressive changes alongside all the conservatism. It's just about progressiveness in the right context. I don't really see a need to make rooftops more alive and furthermore I don't have an army of texture artists to accomplish it without extensive reuse of vanilla assets, and signs in a language I don't even know how to read. Or didn't at the time. I've a translator and more artists now, but I still don't really consider it a concern. The skybox is sexy as **** in v9.0 and I doubt it'd look much better in Unreal 1 no matter what one tries. If I were to try, I'd just add more subtle architectural detail to some of the buildings, but you can't make things too complex without pushing an engine which shouldn't be pushed too hard (because performance, BSP issues etc).
Could you add fog/smog? The air looks awfully clean for Hong Kong
It'd look crap.
IMHO, equalent "windows" - needed to be replaced to diffent "windows"
