GMod is a Sandbox Modification. Using GMod you can pose ragdolls. This means can position people from HL2/CS/DoD and change their faces. A big comic book creating community has popped up around this feature. Using GMod you can build. Take props from HL2/CS/DoD and weld them together to make walls. Axis a wheel to it to create a working car. Rope some cans to the back. A big contraption creating community has popped up around GMod - creating such things as Rube Goldberg devices, catapults, cannons, bridges etc.. Using GMod you can make your own weapons. That's right, make your own weapons. Using Lua you can create a custom weapon to do just about anything. If you're new you can change simple things like rate of fire, models, sounds. If you're awesome the world is your oyster, mass changing guns, melon cannons, jetpacks. GMod gives you the freedom to do any of these things in single player or online with your friends.
Garrys Mod allows the player to manipulate objects and experiment with the physics, often with interesting results due to the Source engine. The construction of complex machines within the game can also be a contemporary spin on the Rube Goldberg machine principle. This is the latest version and has is no longer in active development due to GMOD 10 (a commercial game being released)

What is the big difference between this and GMOD 10?
gMod 10 (aka Garry's Mod) is available for purchase through Steam, and is the only version being updated. gMod 9.0.4 is the last version of Garry's Mod to be available for free download, and will not be updated in the future.
its free tho who wants to pay 10 dollors just for a mod that gets updates so what its not like it really matters to me atleast
you can import maps/models/effects from all source based games into G-Mod 10...you can't with G-Mod 9

Not really, you could get Source SDK since that gives you some source game files. and plus, this download asks you to download SDK Base 2006.
P.S. Its optional to download SDK Base 2007.

Lol zombicidal you're a *******... In Garry's Mod 9.0.4, it's buggy, crashes, the graphics aren't great, it isn't updated to the Orange Box game engine, and endless more things are missing.... What do you mean who wants to pay 10 dollars for updates?? If you have a bug on something you made or are trying to use, obviously you'd want some updates..
GMod 9 sure is a blast from the past. All it's good for is a bit of nostalgia if anything... GMod 10 has so much more to offer!
yes like a annoying new lua system that crashes (refering to gmod 10's lua coding) gmod9's lua coding system atleast was stable.

Gmod 10 is a full orange box engine support game with dynamic shadows and new build features , ability to customize and play , so i think 10$ are the right price.
im too cheap to nuy hl2 but i do have css, i once had gmod for css and i didnt need hl2, if only i could find it ounce more
How to install Garry's Mod 9 for free:
1. Install Steam & make account: store.steampowered.com/about/
2. In Steam go to View>Tools & install Source SDK Base 2006.
3. Got to Steam>Exit to exit Steam. Install Gmod 9.04
4. Open Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\gmod9\gameinfo.txt & change SteamAppId 220 to 215 & save. Load Steam, go to View>Games List and click to play.

does gmod ( or gmod 11 ) to steam it's just gmod i had almost mistaken it for the first gmod does gmod 11 need source engines and is it legal to download some models , guns , etc..? without buyin the different games cuz... i live in the phillipines
