"From Earth" takes place close to the year 3,000 when one woman and one man, Zenaida and Anthony, are sent to a remote alien planet. After fifty years in cold sleep, they find themselves on a recently industrialised world being hunted by an alien government. They have only their wits, athleticism and the remains of their equipment to keep them alive. In this first person singleplayer experience, the player takes control of Zenaida Liu upon arriving on the planet. From Earth's gameplay is very much about your relationship to this world and its technology, requiring you to figure out how it all works and encouraging cooperation with the local population. Nothing about the alien technology is explained to players. It's about experimentation and learning what's what and how things on this planet work. The player also has some athletic abilities, such as climbing, wall running, hanging on ledges and so on.

Report RSS Public Beta Release Date

So, the current release date for the public beta will be 10th of March 2016. There was some big bugs that I wanted to fix so I had to delay it a little bit. Hopefully there wont be similar problems and I wont have to extend it longer. You can now view the From Earth store page here.

Even though the development is not over yet I would like to thank everyone who has made significant contributions for the project. Since From Earth is a non-commercial project everyone worked for free and I am really grateful for everyone who used their time for my ideas. I wouldn’t have been able to do this project without you all.

First of all I would like to thank all the voice actors for who had to learn the alien language pronunciation. I know it wasn’t easy. I should have used English style pronunciation, but for some reason I wanted to have more Finnish style and it was the worst decision.

Almir Jasarevic did a lot of 2d-art including logos such as the ISEP and Z-Duw logos. Ansgar was in the team for a little while, but he wrote part of the dialogue such as parts of the intro sequence dialogue and some of the later sequences. Ashley Mangusing did the voice of the alien Queen and even wrote some backstory for her! Ceviri did both the voices of Anthony and Frank, and I am incredibly happy with the both of them.

Christiaan Bakker not only did majority of the music he also helped organize all of the music. Colter Wehmeier did a lot of textures and helped capture some of the outside look initially. Daniel Tejnicky did majority of the concept art including the concept art and character name for Zenaida Liu. Dennis Yaremov did almost all of the custom sounds for From Earth and his nickname also inspired the name "Entrulians" for the aliens.

Dianna Conley probably had the biggest voice acting role, that is the role of both the generic female aliens and the player ally Kra 32nd! She was specially in great with helping me with all my requests for the alien language. Henri Tervapuro is a talented 2d artist; for From Earth he did some prop models such as the trees, bushes and other foliage. Jason Snell did a whole lot of prop models including replacing stock HL2 models giving From Earth a lot more unique look. He’s been a huge morale boost for the project. Jesse Lowther was the voice of the alien Commander and did a great job with the somewhat small role.

Joseph P. Bracken did the voice of the generic male aliens. I had a lot of time recording with him. JP Lyyttinen saved the project from ugly human 3d models when he made the models for both Zenaida Liu and Anthony Yaremov. Maartex Froninckx did some prop models for From Earth. Rupert Cole is a talented composer who really helped with some additional music.

Stephanie Nixon did a great job with Zenaida Liu. I am unsure which role is the biggest in terms of lines that needed to be recorded, but hers was probably very difficult considering we had to record the lines for the alien language system to match in speed and tone of voice. Tuomas Kuusiniemi had a small role as an alien advertiser, but did a good job.

Also, big thanks to Shaun “Semfry” Friend for finding and helping to fix a lot of bugs just prior the release of the public beta. Also big thanks for all of Beta Testers Collective for helping organize some of the play testers.
