If I have not undestood badly your question. Check the game options. You can activate one option for rotate the view.

Description

Nkllon is planet very close to its star. By this reason only the dark side from the planet was colonized. However, if you want reach the starbase in the darkside, you will need cross a part of the space where the sun can reach you. This is the reason because the ISD from the video suffers damage. Smaller starships will suffer more and obviously bigger starships will suffer less.

The blink from the shadow is a default mistake from the original game, it happens more when the sun is at some special positions where it does not cover a lot of space or some like this. At the end EAW never has been a perfect game, it has a lot of bug but nobody know one better or even similar.
