Well, we have the first ingame screenshots from Vol'takes. Were you waiting more? Clearly the game looks very similar to EAW. Probably some people say that it is bad but I think that it is good if it runs better and it adds new features.

You're right, this does look a lot like EAW. And you're also right that it looks like crap for a modern game. Still, better than vanilla eaw, not that it takes much to top that.
I have not told that it looks bad. Just how some people would think it. For me it looks great because when I look this, I think in the odds.
Think of crysis 3 and then think of this. Then imagine how much better it can look and then see how this is pretty crappy.
Yeah graphics department could be improved. I've seen indie games with some badass graphics. But one thing that I would really like to see is a bigger/scrollable unit bar.
When it be released, you can buy the game and you can make your version with better graphics if you want.
To be fair, they are using an engine from 2006, and I don't think they have a large professional team that most modern game companies have.

A common mistake that people make. Change is not always good. Change can be for better or worse ;) Change is most definitly not always welcome.
You are losing all the future perspective. What do you go to make when EAW can not be played or is loses all the players? at this moment play EAW at Windows 8 is very difficult.
I have been modding games for more of 14 years and I can tell you at 100% how Vol'takes is a very big gift for the EAW community.
Now if you start to say that it is a bad gift, the unique thing that you will proof, it is how you can not handle modding another game, even one easier and very similar.
Vol'talkes is definitely a potential major milestone for the whole community and it's made by the Steiner Modding Group (known for Awakening of the Rebellion and Steiner's Advanced Units back in the old days). But Geroenimo is also right, I think some improvement on the graphics would fit the game very well and especially for RTS-games it's a major selling factor: Humans are generally very visual-oriented beings, so graphics are important for many types of games who do not want to drown in the mass. Think about Dawn of War 2 for example. However, I can't wait for future updates on this and I'm very amazed to see the first pictures.
You can be right about the graphics perspective but it is the perspective from a modder and when you make a real game, there is one thing which you can not do, you can not take stuff made for other games or from other people out your team.
I feel that you should value this point.
About other point, I have seen games with worse graphics at kickstarter or steam green....graphics are not everything, the gameplay and what can a game offer you for after you buy it, they are more important. At other games, you can buy them, you play few hours and after it because you can not edit them, you forget the game forever.
About Dawn of War 1 and 2, what curious see how they have mods but most of them are from the Warhammer universe, it says to me how it is not a friendly game for edit as Vol'takes will be.
back it up a bit, I think it's amazing that this is being made and released, I just responded to rubikscube, as he made a key mistake in his way of thinking. It wasn't meant at all to this project.
