One good point from Vol'takes, it can be edited easier than previous games with this engine. I do not know if the final version will add this but at least the early version adds several logs telling you problems and what is missing, it is better than a crash to desktop. Because the ISD from the image, have not coded the proyectiles, particles and more but the game did not crash. Have fun.

Does the golden glow around that star mean you can customise the appearance of parts of the Galaxy map to reflect the systems which are in those parts? That would be awesome.
Can be, there are many things equal to EAW and many more new, from my opinion, this game explores more deeply all the features from the engine.
But more than at how the planets look, I would be more interested at handle a galaxy with many more planets than EAW because at EAW, we could see clearly how the game can not handle too much without crash.
Good stuff. But having 100+ planets is a double-edged sword. As the number of planets increase, while it makes the game cooler and more relistic, it makes modder's job harder if he wants to keep every planet unique and interesting, and not just another one from the bunch of planets a player has to march through in order to win.
Well, by the words of the Vol'takes creators, they want make some more similar to the old Rebellion game and at this old game, there were thousands of planets.
