First Strike is a Star Wars total conversion modification for Battlefield 2142. The goal of First Strike is to totally immerse the players into the amazing universe of Star Wars by presenting the most accurate representations of famous Star Wars locales, weapons, and characters, and combining them with exciting, fast paced gameplay and features new to the Battlefield scene. Within this mod you'll find yourself as a soldier of the Galactic Empire or as a freedom fighter for the Rebel Alliance. You'll fight across lovingly detailed recreations of various Star Wars locations with a wide array of weapons and vehicles.
Tie advanced prototype test import into Unity
So this is becoming a standalone mod/game on the unity engine is it?
Its a possibility. Doing some testing with the Unity game engine. This is in the Unity Editor and so is the other new graphic.
Oh cool!, Well I hope it works out! Best of luck!
That would be the best direction to take the project. Sadly the Refractor engine is being burried in the sands of time and soon it's going to take First Strike with it.
Unity is a good choice. We use it for X-WingVM and only had few major issue, which have been resolved by now.
Hmm, and why do you plan to use Unity Engine? The Unreal Engine is better fitted for shooters and it has much better physics.
The biggest problem with moving to an open game engine is that all the gameplay has to becreated, which is a big effort. As a mod for Battlefield 2142 the game play is already there. We tried with the Battlecry team for UE4 after EA pulled the plug on BF2142 and number of EA games a few years back. The Battlecy team spent 2 years just getting infantry gameplay working without a release. There were also issues that UE4 used a different texture system, so all the First Strike models would have needed to be re-textured. But then the other problem that we ran into is that the Battlecry team wanted to take advantage of UE4 with higher quality models. First Strike models would have looked dated in comparison
I have a buddy that has created a playable game in unity and he is willing to modify it for use with Unity. It also much easier to import the models. Yes, there are better game engines, but it is pointless unless you have the time and resources to create a playable game, which I think we can do with Unity. Also I am hoping to recapture the gameplay feel of the Star Wars mods for Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2142.
Also, EA shut down a fan made game that they saw as possible contention with Battlefront. So, we have to be careful about anything that might appear to be in competition with EA's Battlefront.
