Players in Epic TaleZ play maps which consist of pages from books. Depending on the map, you might also be able to listen to it.

Authors can use text, photos, music, sounds, probably even movies, have somebody read their story to players, etc. If you decide you want more than pages, you can add enemies or even trick jumping puzzles. A side view map or trick jumping map is suggested, but there are many routes to take with it.

If you're an auther, simply create a standard Source level.
Is the default map. However, you can make it however you want.

Name your map either ChapterX (X = 1 to 100) or whatever your book is called.
If you use ChapterX, you can play it right from the single player menu. Otherwise use your console and type
map MapName

Suggestions: Use half life 2 maps. I want a game that i can explore awesome 3d environments while listening to the book. Make it to where we can port our own media.(video..w/e) and give us a tag(spray) option. That anywhere throughout the exploration and listening to the audio. We can spray the video on any surface.

Just fyi I'm almost finished with chapter one of Elements of War(Book). As for level creation, I think instead I'm going to make that level(err book) about mod creation for Source. Don't expect either anytime soon though :P

I like that you are being creative and thinking of new ideas, but this doesn't sound that fun to play. If you want to spread your stories or books online, a game engine isn't the best choice. It isn't convenient, and fewer people will see it compared to posting on websites.

A nice idea, but still not the best way too pull off the book reading. With a large amount of recoding the engine, with a small use of mapping will suffice but even then i don't see the point.

Great job on creating something original though! :)

So all you do is to walk around and read books? Not trying to be mean or anything but for what purpose? I mean, if I want to read I book I'd preferably read an acutal book rather than staring at my computer monitor.

Well my levels you can only read atm. However, other authors can use photos, sounds, music, have somebody read the book to you, etc. You could play multi-player where your grand pa reads it to you, have a group get together to play the voices...

I never liked the idea of DLC, but for some reason this game has it all over it.

Anyways, I'm mainly just showing my author friend that she has more options than just trying to hit it big with selling a book. She's totally ignoring online, which is a big mistake IMHO.
