I love these kinds of defensive implements. When one of these structures is in play, it incentivizes the usage of stealth craft and a small force ahead of your main fleet to try and take it out prior to bringing in your main force. As the empire that might mean using Tie Phantoms to sneak through the perimeter and call a frigate or some bombers right on top of it, or for the rebellion to blitz through the lines with some fast gunships bypassing the main defenses, or even using a surgical bomber strike

That's a great strategy, this thing will be quite dangerous to slow and exposed targets. We don't currently have many stealth units though this is a great excuse to add more. Whenever that happens, they'll be shown here.

Description

New model for the orbital uplink cannon. The idea: A defence station on the map, that controls a large cannon orbiting the map, outside of the playable area, passively shooting at hostile ships, until the control station is destroyed. No idea if it'll work, but worth a shot. And if it doesn't work, we'll go with the more engaged, more boring, on-the-map version. Either way, this cannon will make it ingame one way or the other.

Based on the GDI Ion Cannon, that I've wanted ingame forever: External-content.duckduckgo.com
While it doesn't fit the star wars aesthetic very much I'm nontheless very satisfied with the end result.

Model, texture, rigging by me.
