ESF is a fast paced, 3rd person fighter based on the hit anime, Dragonball Z. Select your favorite character and fly, power up, transform, melee, and beam your enemies into pulp. Each character is given signature moves and abilities to compliment different style of play. Some are stronger in hand to hand combat, others are better with energy attacks. Play in three different game modes, deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the dragonballs. There is a learning curve so newbies beware. This is not your normal Half-life mod.

Remember guys its only a prototype of the thesis that Raven made for school. Depending on how much of a hit it is on the performance it may or may not be included in the final game.

No thats APEX integrated inb to our map system.

Its basically PhysX.

So its the power of our coderz for putting it all in to HL1 :p

I still can't entirely comprehend how without the source code for the goldsource engine you guys can change so much, and if source code is not needed why something like what you guys show was not possible before even tho other just talented developers worked with it!?

Grega Nov 23 2013, 10:24pm replied:

Its not that it wasnt possible, its that it wasnt tried.

Your average dev would probably laugh at the idea of manually adding systems that are already implemented in newer engines with a free such as Unity or the UE.

Adding shaders in by hand is a really roundabout way of doing things really. On the other hand it shows that the coders know inside and out how those systems work and can specxiffically taylor them to our very needs, instead of simply using given defaults.

As for how its possible on GoldSRC. Its simple. The HL1 SDK is just that open to modding. The only thing more open to moding is the engine source code itsef. Compared to this, Source is limited as all hell.

Just goes to show how rebust HL1 really was and how much controll Valve gave with the SDK back then.

Since you change so much code and make it look more awesome, what are the requirements going to be for the game? It can't be the old standards, and also when do you plan to release? :)

Grega Nov 24 2013, 5:50pm replied:

We cant be 100% sure about the requirements, sicne its still WIP and not fully optimized, but you will need Shader model 3.0 on your GFX card and a SSE2 compatible CPU.

The release date is not known at this stage either. Since we work on this as we have time for it, so we kinda have a "Its done when its done" mentality towards questions about the release.

Is the fracturing done externally or do you use your own algorithms within the GoldSource engine? I also see that you've incorporated PhysX. Will this impact ATI/AMD GPU's? I am elated that your project continues while managing hardships.

Grega Dec 5 2013, 4:46pm replied:

APEX was used for this. Basically the fractures are premade, but depending on the hit, not all the fractures actually break.

AS for ATI. We will only be doing this for certain visual destruction. Meaning the pieces will disappear after destroyed. That way we can simply make it vanish for AMD/ATI without the whole breaking appart thing.

But if turned on, then yes i expect ATIs to get a big performance hit.

That's rather unfortunate. I managed to grab an R9 270 two weeks ago. I don't know if it's processing speed will be enough to play without having some minor fps lag. Also, is there any prerequisites or openings for the ESF team?

ATM id say we are lacking 3D/2D artists and maybe a coder who could handle gameplay related stuff.

Though its probably the best idea to simply go to our TS3 channel and ask there. Im a bit out of the loop since ive had a training course for the past few weeks which left me next to no time for ESF itself ^^;
