Dystopia is a is a total conversion of the Source Engine that places players into tense combat situations in a high-tech world spanned by computer networks. As Punks or Corporate Mercenaries, players will fight through the physical world to gain access, via Jack-in Points, to cyberspace. Cyberspace is a three dimensonal representation of the world's network. In cyberspace, players must fight off enemy hackers and launch programs to gain control of critical systems and to affect the physical world. Gameplay progresses through inter-linked physical and cyberspace objectives, and players must work together to achieve victory for their team. Players will be immersed in action-packed battles, whether as a heavily augmented combat mercenary armed to the teeth with the latest in firepower and cybernetic implants, or as a twitch-reflex cyberdecker racing to infiltrate a cyberspace node.

Our web site recently logged it's 1 millionth unique visitor, with 500,000 of those passing through in the last 2 months alone. With a total of 58 million files served out, our web server has sent over 850 gig of data out onto the internet. To celebrate this awesome milestone we'd like to give everyone a sneak peak at the team's progress on the upcoming maps. These will be added to the demo release as soon as possible, once they've passed our stringent play testing process.

First up we have Abandon, a map being created by Caliban. It features a run down urban environment, lots of twisting alley ways and lots of roof top action. This map is sure to show off the legboosters implant and long range weapons.

Trapt's upcoming map, Connection, will see the Punk team launching an attack on a Corporate building from their hide out in the slums area. Though still early in development, this map already displays the juxtaposition between clean Corp buildings and slummy Punk locations.

Connection Connection

Silo is Termi's 2nd map for Dystopia, he's taken the lessons he learnt when creating Vaccine and has been plowing through development of his follow up level. The Punks are attempting to infiltrate a missile silo which is undergoing refurbishment, with the goal of taking over the launch controls.

Silo Silo

Finally we have UrbanRisk, which is being created by Dogmeat. As an excellent example of our team looking to the community to help us complete our project, we invited Dogmeat onto the team after seeing screenshots of his map posted in our mapping forum. I'm sure you can see from these screenshots exactly why, his eye for detail is incredible.

yeah indeed
there are a lot more environments then cities and jungles
atm i dont see much variety in levels
not that they dont look good
but a variety in maps is always nice and can only be positive for the mod

Just to reply to a few of the comments here:

Our mappers work with the existing HL2 textures while they're building up the level, then our 2D artists create custom textures where required.

What with Dystopia feature battles between Punks and Corps, the two general settings we have available to us are; run down urban areas and corporate fascilities / buildings. With this said, our mappers each have their own style and are creating vastly different and unique areas in their levels.

Abandon is based mainly on a flowing street layout. Connection initially begins in a slum, with the gameplay progressing through into a Corp building. Silo is very unique, being set in a missile silo which is undergoing refurbishment. UrbanRisk is set in a street scape similar to Chicago, with over head train tracks with play progressing into a run down shopping mall.

I hope that our next load of screenshots will give you guys more of an idea of the unique setting and feel to each of these levels.

I have no intentions of starting a fight here, but I feel obligated to say that the comments exist so people can comment on news posts, media, mod profiles etc. Inevitably, not everything one has to say is going to be 100% positive. Again, the maps are looking great, but it would still be nice to see some variety. No, not desert-jungles with flying dragons, but perhaps something other than another run down urban environment. I'm only criticising because I'd like to see an already awesome mod be even better, so there's no need to lose your temper, KiGrind.

They look cool tyo me, was getting tired of Vaccine. Btw about the HL2 textures, most mappers doing the mapping first then* the texturing. As they said these are WIP'S.

I kind of have to agree with Sebastos, they all look pretty similar. Not saying they look bad or anything, it's some great work you guys are doing. It's just sorta boring playing in the same run down urban environment every match.

Looks good, nice atmosphere - the screens don't look all that similar in the details to me.

Maybe one day you guys will realize the game isn't based in a damn jungle. You don't have "Cyberpunks" running around in the desert or some jungle shooting each other. Maybe the whole "Urbananized Future" is too much for you too handle. Maybe this the Ghetto Urban areas were seeing? I dont know. But really all cities look the same to me in real life, big useless buildings and lights. What more do you want?

Maybe a map in a stadium would be cool, or a giant bank whicH i dont really see the source engine rendering a huge 20 story building either... after you pack it full of cool **** so it dosnt look the same every level.

Get over it, its part of the game. You guys act like its star wars were you could ride on flying dragons if you wanted. GO START YOU OWN MOD AND END UP LIKE THE OTHER 100 OR SO USELESS PAGES ON MOD DB.

Nice work so far, ROCK ON.

Why don't you guys go check out Ghost in the Shell for some inspiration? Not everything took place at night, and it was based around a pollution-pumping factory city. How about a backscape of huge buildings while you're running along the deserted highways? That'd be fun.
