Displaced is a pseudo Half-Life 2 expansion that aims to serve as a continuation of the titular Adrian Shepard's journey, this time however set in the world of the lost Half-Life 2 Beta. As the player you have been 'Displaced' in the timeline of the beta; co existing simultaneously parallel to the Retail timeline, and you must suffer the implications of said timeline, without Gordon Freeman.
Please note that my earliest and first usage of the modding tools was only days ago, that being said I feel as though I know enough about the engine and its intricacies to properly deliver a cohesive and well defined experience. This will, hopefully, be evident in the preview screenshots.
At the time of writing, this is a one man project, but perhaps if any readers show interest I'll be keen to consider a role for those who ask.
Also please note this project is VERY early days and any instances of custom models and weapons are not my own and simply exist to experiment with and influence the tone of the mod. No unoriginal content is authorised or will be available in the full release.
Custom assets found in the preview images are made by:
Beta Citizens: Wolfcl0ck - Gamebanana.com
MP5k: FF97 - Gamebanana.com
Greetings all! Welcome to the first of many Update Articles for Displaced. Within this article you'll find information pertaining to development, story beats, and environments, I hope all items showcased satisfies your curiosity and heightens your excitement, for this project's inevitable release.
Chapter 1, Infinite Completion. The player awakes as Adrian Shepard, left broken beat and scarred following the events of Half-Life: Opposing Force, a six year hiatus hasn't aided in this regard, and now it's time to rediscover the world that was robbed of you so long ago. In this chapter, the player encounters peril at every turn, you will battle Headcrabs, Civil Protection, and potentially a third faction whilst your vision is obscured by a toxic atmosphere and the imposing concrete walls of City 17's skyscrapers. Your mission? It doesn't exist, not yet at least.
Here is a screenshot taken during the first few areas of Infinite Completion:
Yes I see the mouse. I'm not happy about it either.
Now for a little behind the scenes. Here is one of many giant skyscrapers you'll face during your passage through City 17.
As some of you may know, my first instance of hammer usage was mere weeks ago, and since then I've made it my mission to learn and dedicate my time to said learning wherever and whenever possible. I feel, I have advanced greatly since my beginnings, and this is most definitely apparent in newer sections of the mod, as seen in the Infinite Completion preview. That being said, earlier areas of the mod are being revisited and constantly revised to better align with my ever expanding knowledge and vision.
This brings me onto our next and final segment...
I would like to extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to contribute to or be a part of the mod. I believe multiple perspectives, talents, and visions are important for the development of any mod and are much more valuable than the individual effort of one person alone.
If you are interested in assisting me and this mod, currently needed are: 3D modellers, mappers, and texture artists.
If you believe you retain the knowledge, skill, and determination needed to fill these rolls, please leave a comment below, thank you.
Look cool!
Glad to hear you think so!
looks interesting. Good luck making the mod
