Delusion is a single-player psychological horror story about a mental patient who is removed from the care of his facility during a violent outbreak of the patients.

Assume the role of Jacob Stiltz, a registered schziophrenic in care of the Walnut Cove: Hospital for the Criminally Insane. You don't have any recollection on your admittence into the facility, and you can't remember anything outside of the frame of the first day you woke up in your room to the day the patients revolted against the staff; forcing you out of the asylum and into the real world.

What happens when a mental patient is released into the world unsupervised, with his only guidance coming from another inmate who suffers the same ailment as yourself?

It's a thriller story that only you, the player, can unfold.

Delusion plans to bring you:

    Free-Choice Gameplay
A fine line of not-linear, but not free-roam. There will be plenty of choices for you to make as you ride the rail til the end.

    A Unique Story
Built from the ground up trying to remain unbiased by influences; Delusion's story is being researched to ensure medical accuracies resulting a genuinely chilling story based on the principles of mentality and corruption. The game's puzzles are attempting to be connected to the story as much as possible as well, so that you're constantly learning about this world we are creating.

    Dual-World Gameplay
The player will be able to witness events through a number of different views, ranging on the severity of the neglecting ailment that you suffer from.

    Being Human
Jacob is human, and you will have to think like a human to survive this story. His health is determined by the amount of injuries he's taken, and requires carefully thought out strategy and determination before going into battles. This also effects his ability to perform certain tasks, such as solving puzzles - to even running and jumping.

    A Challenge
If Being Human didn't point this out; well here's the bombshell. Delusion is going to make you have to carefully think of the routes you would like to take while playing through the story. Things such as ammunition and health-kits are sparce throughout the mod, and need to be conserved to ensure the upper-hand against more powerful enemies. Remember - your mind is the limit to what you might face in the coming levels.

"The World IS as Dangerous as it Looks"
Firearms are sparse, as mentioned before. Delusion is going to feature a robust number of melee based weaponry to help you fight off attackers. Things ranging from house-hold items that can be easily uprooted; to items that will require tools to remove - but result in better stats.

These ideas are subject to change as we continue development though. Stay tuned for updates and further information!

Delusion - September 2010

News

Delusion (previously Delusion:Source) is back in business and being worked on again after being almost two years comatose. I figured I'd post this since a mysterious old looking mod had popped back up out of nowhere, so just to clear any confusion.

Anyways, collecting a handful of previous members, we've scrapped a lot of old progress - particularly the story - and are starting fresh and new; even our platform has changed. We've moved the project from Valve's Source'07 engine, to Epic's UDK. This is a good/bad thing. It first comes off as good since now, once the project is finished - it will be free to all for playing. So instead of being capped by having to own a Steam account with a Source game, anybody with sufficient specifications should be able to play this. It's a bad thing though since both mine, and my teams general knowledge was all based around the Source engine. So we are starting from square one in learning the programming aspect, level design, and compiling methods.

We've been talking about what we've said before and have reworked our previous hopeful features, and hope to be able to deliver something even better than the stagnant previous wishlist. A lot of our changes focus on bringing a unique "human-isque" realistic horror game to the table. Something that actually makes you feel like your actions reflect what you'd normally feel in real life in a similar situation.

I mentioned briefly above that I've taken some time to rework the initial storyline, and have been doing a lot of research into the psychology field to help bring a more real world scenario to the table. I can proudly say that I've broken away from previous scraps including extremely overused subjects such as biological warfare, governmental involvement, etc - and I think I've come up with something that should be refreshing for the horror genre fan.

So that's the main point of this post. On a last note, we are looking for casual, but experienced & dedicated non-profit help. At the current time the team is extremely small, and all have normal lives as well - mostly college eating away at our time. We aren't looking for anyone that really wants to sit down and work on it 24/7, but a casual flow is basically all we are looking for.

We can use help in almost any area, but at the current time are definitely looking for an UnrealScripter, 3D Prop Modeler, 3D Organics Modeler & Rigger, and Concept Artist. If interested in helping, email me at sebhael@gmail.com with some previous examples of work and whatever you have to say about yourself that might be useful (i.e. Your Name, Occupation, Location, Experience, etc) and we'll run it by ourselves.

So that's all I have to say for now.
Thanks,
- Sebhael

P.S. - Most of the comments, and media on the page are potentially defunct and outdated now. Just a forewarning.

Yes, we are still alive.

School has raped most of the member's free time, and I've currently had a situation regarding a hi-jacker who ruined our forums and the sort.

So, we are pushing forward, slowly.
