Contra is a freeware modification for Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour real-time strategy game. It's a big project started in 2004. It adds many new units as well as numerous new upgrades, new general's powers and buildings. It also adds new sounds, maps, bug fixes, enhanced graphics, and other effects, as well as three new generals.

Ok:
removed the contamination ability for toxin buildings: well, ok.
Removed the fire ports on the gun buggy: seriously, why?
Ratel II without jammer beam: Why?
Improved the SW AI in skirmish: exellent (only point is that is Always has low power)

Overall: very good update!

Contamination and Gun Buggy fire-ports were overpowered in early game.
Ratel II is not balanced yet. He will probably get an ability next time.

In my opinion the removal of the fire ports on the gun buggy is a loss. Mixing all kinds of buggies was a very efficient way of performing hit and run, which is obviously the way Prince Kassad was meant to be played. Maybe you can keep it as an upgrade in the later tech tree, if you want to balance it out in the early game?

Buggies with fireports are good only in early game. At rank 3, they are useles vs any r3 enemy unit. And in early game, they are simply op. GLA can build factory very fast, and load them with rpgs, such buggies will destroy any usa or china dozer which tries to expand early. Not only this, they can destroy china supply trucks too. They simply deal too much damage early and almost guarantee vicotry. Now you need a bit more micro, unload rpg troopers if you want to use them, but also, troopers are vulnerable when out. Even dozer can crush them. So, according to our many tests, this is the most balanced version of buggy. Same goes for Valanx, 2 of them with rpg-s can block any tunnel and rape huge number of units comming out from tunnel. Trust me, it is more balanced than before.

I highly disagree that fireports are useful only in the early game here. After Palace's upgrades to rockets and snipers they were good in mid and late game, supporting the mortar/rocker buggies' low ability to do good damage while on the move. More micro oriented plays are great, but now it makes more sense to use terrorists instead. Besides, Gun buggies are capable of killing dozers and supply trucks by their gun very efficiently without any need for infantry in them. The Valanxes were always made out of paper, and a couple of rpgs could easily snipe them. Besides, most of GLA's Scorpions have either a rocket or a powerful gun, both of which are fairly efficient vs single targets such as Valanxes.
Then again, if you see it this way, so shall it be.

Gun Buggy is good only for scout and destroying Usa Spy drones. But as you say that they are useful after rank 3, it is not true. That is weakest unit at that stage of the game. You can't even destroy toxin tractor with it, I would not mention Overlords, F35, Marauders etc...

Depends on a situation and your army mix. Mixing all sorts of buggies would give Gun Buggies a good potential to survive and deal damage and constantly kiting enemy units is quite effective versus ground. And I say ground because buggies have no anti-air potential whatsoever. When buggies are microed well, they become a force that can easily chip off enemy units with little to no backfire. Or, well, they used to anyways.

Still though, the point was to balance them in early game, and it was done, I guess. But seriously, I'm confused by this decision. Why would Battle Buses be in the game then? They too are pretty useless and not cost efficient as they are after rank 3.

Again...in later stage of game, you would simply lose too much time on micro for buggy, which can be dead from one overlord shot, or paladin, or any higher rank unit. Battle bus is kept as ambush surprise unit, cause he can store much more infantry. If you sneak one of them, you will have the chance to destroy one or two structures such as supply. But, i doubt you will sneak 5 buggies at the same time (because they cant be stealth while moving, while bus with gps can).

Trading a battle bus full of rpgs for a building or two doesn't look like a fair sacrifice.
It seems this discussion can continue for an eternity. I suggest we drop it. x)

Well, i base my answers on many online games. Trust me, when you are facing frontal attack, and one sneaky bus comes from behind and destroys your second war factory...you are pretty much doomed.

A: Because gun buggy was OP at early game, put 2 RPGs and rape dozers.. Than you force usa to build Sec systems which cost $700 and it's big investment in that stage of game. While you can move around a map.
Q:Ratel II without jammer beam: Why?
A: Because sometimes can cause mismatch and also he does not need beam that much because he is stealth even when he shots.

Happy Holidays!

This MOD is awesome and we are playing this mod for several months now with my co-workers, we play this thru LAN. Sometimes versus AI or most of the time 2B2, so we encounter serious error during start of the battle or in the middle of the game it says "Mismatch due to blah blah blah! etc.."..

so my question is, in this patch is already fixed for that error?

Mismatch can never be fixed completely in Generals. But as we fix errors, mismatches occur less often. This version is more stable.

What is the main reason for such error? Our conclusion maybe in one laptop that we are using is delayed sending communication, like if there are more armies, tanks, helicopters, etc... So the tendency most of the time are lag..

Certain parts of the mod's code could cause mismatch. This can be confirmed by online players when a specific action (such as using a general's power) triggers a mismatch instantly or after very few seconds. What we can do about it is revise parts of the code so that it doesn't trigger the mismatch error.

Other times mismatch can occur randomly by itself. Exact reasons are unknown and nobody has found a way to avoid it yet. We have to deal with it.

To begin ... Happy Holidays.
Installed the game, normal voice or the other , i get the same problem..
Game ends abrupt with 'Technical error' after aprox 10 min. playing against just 2 AI on hard. Myself as GLA assult, the 2 AI as Laser and Tank.
I didn't have that with the previous version, so the best would be to take that one again.
