Close Quarters was an experimental mod. My main aim was to make multiplayer Red alert games much more tactical. There are a lot of units in Red alert, but in multiplayer very few of them will get used - matches often just end up with massive tank rushes to the enemy base. That can be fun too, but I wanted to see if I could make something different in multiplayer... to put some real strategy back in.
I have removed all the unecessary units and balanced those which remained. The maps are small islands, as this forces players to fight over common ore sites, and makes surprise attacks much more possible. The mod contains five unique maps which use a new rule set. This includes new and altered units. The documentation included with the mod describes what changes I have made, and how these make the game more tactical.

I only played this mod in skirmish mod, fun for awhile. I'm sure it would be better with a real person as a enemy. Don't pay attention to these guys, you did what you wanted to and i think it turned out well.

I guess I didn't explain this mod very well in my description. It's not a normal mod!!! I didn't really make it as an enhancement to Red Alert. I was a student of game development when I made it, and it was just an experiment to simplify the game rather than expand it.
In fact all the units in this mod are useful, that was the aim of the experiment. It's like Paper Scissors Stone - no unit is better than any other, they all have important uses and weaknesses. But it takes a lot of time to learn how they are balanced.
So if you want an improved Red Alert with fun new units I would not recommend this mod to you at all!
But if you have some patience and want to play a quicker, more tactical game that isn't about tank rushing, then it would appeal to you.

this mod is horrible.. too many unnessasary removals
such as:
RADAR DOME
SHOCK TROOPER
TESLA COIL
TESLA TANK
TECH CENTER
NAVAL YARD/SUB PEN
ATOM BOMBS
and all that stuff is removed to add garbage and tweak garbage thats useless..
